Maybe some of you have had better experiences with them then me, but mine was not very pleasant. This post is both a vent and recollection of my experience with them.
I placed an order for the KA24DE manifold w/ 1.610 piping, Tial wastegate flange, and T3 Turbo flange. What I received was a KA24DE manifold w/ 1.610 piping, no wastegate flange, and a T4 turbo flange. Of course I called to rectify the discrepancy with the order.
First I spoke with some receptionist who gave me over to "Lance" with the turbo dept. At first I just questioned why I hadn't received the wastegate flange. He seemed incompetent as he asked my name about three times within 60 seconds "What was your name again?", each time repeating my name back to me as he looked for my order. Then he finally asked me for the invoice number and found it that way. :rolleyes. "Oh, well it looks like someone just forgot it." He said he would just get another one shipped out. No sorry for the inconvenience, nothing. Well whatever. I would have been fine until I looked at the radius plate and the turbo flange since I hadn't yet matched it up to my turbo yet. The radius plate sits inside the flange hole. So I made sure to ask an open ended question, "Is the flange supposed to sit on the inside of the flange or around the outside hole." After fumbling through words, outside if T3, inside if T4. I told him this was not my order, I ordered it for a T3. He says well the order says TK053, which admittely it does on the paypal. I backtracked my steps and redid the order as I was ordering it a week ago, I specifically remember clicking the TK030 T3 1.610 ID in the drop down. Is it my fault that I didn't check what the item number was after my order? Quite possibly, but I just expected some type of courteous customer service. Besides, he didn't know if the error was some backend error or what instead of just trying to put the blame all on me. At first Lance was like well I wont charge you for anything, and we'll get it shipped out. "Lance, I've already been charged for the wastegate flange." "Oh, well what I mean is we won't charge you shipping?" That was one of the kicker's that pissed me off. "You mean to tell me your not going to charge me shipping for something that should have been in the box the first time around." He started back peddling trying to defend his statement.
After enough banter, I just told him I wanted to speak to his supervisor or manager. He said there was no one higher although he didn't own the business. So I call back and get the receptionist again, I told her that I needed to get my wastegate shipped out and I would like to speak to Lance's manager. She's like okay, please hold. Now I was on hold for about 90 seconds after she was obviously talking to Lance. She's like "well ... I guess you'll be talking to me" ... Great. I was completely calm and rational when talking to her by the way. She's already on the defensive from speaking with Lance and attacking me at points that I hadn't even discussed with her. I saw that this wasn't going anywhere except to raise my blood pressure, so I just told them to ship me out my flange and call it a day.
I hope you take this into consideration when ordering from JGS. I know that many of us KA fellows don't have many cheap alternatives when it comes to manifolds. But just consider my experience and realize that it could be you. I tried to remain as neutral as possible, but since it is coming from me it obviously is going to be biased somewhat. But I didn't get any type of compensation on what I feel like was completely their ordering error, even at least on the wastegate flange which Lance admittely accepted as their fault, not even an apology. What defense do we really have against businesses except to inform ...?
