A long time friend of mine has cleared a few of the above mentioned concerns about the validity of a true JDM engine. One point to lay to rest is that most JDM engines are "cleaned and tested intensly" while in Japan before shipped to the U.S. importer and DO have the Infiniti emblem on them. Another thing is a unique smog device on the engine as a accessory that is an imediate indicator that the engine is indeed a JDM engine. Most company's that sell used JDM engines don't even know the difference between the JDM and the US version. There is not enough demand per say to warrant a big conspiracy of Fake JDM engines. Not saying there is not some of that going on, but for the most part if you investigate a bit you will get a True JDM engine.
My friend also said to keep all paperwork and that even after the warranty is over if you find the engine is not JDM then that company can be held accountable. He did not mention anything about the precats, so I apoligize fot not clearing that up.
Now tell me if I'm wrong, but if you truly love your car and want to keep it then 1000 to 1300 is not too much to pay for a 40,000 mile engine that will replace your 250,000 k to 300,000 motor. Given all the work and extra money it's still all worth it to me. Not to mention some extra spice that some of us are working on.
My Q is up on blocks now When it comes back to life I'll need a name for her. I think Nico is a cool name.
