Exactly what happened to mine. About 2 nights after we finished my motor swap I pulled up to my driveway and heard a super loud ticking noise. The motor was a brand new rebuilt motor. when I pulled it apart the top timing chain guide was snapped in two pieces and just resting on top of the timing chain. I would check that before I do anything else.hotrod240sx wrote:1 other thing i would check is pull the valve cover off and make sure the chain guide up top hasn't broke. when mine did on my old motor it rattled and all, thought my motor was shot also, till i did a little looking, would be worth checking. also if it did you can just take it out and trash it, my new motor doesn't even have it, from what i have heard it was deemed unnecessary by Nissan
that marble noise ur hearing is nothing, my old hatch had 128k on it and it made that noise from day one and i drove it like that for 20k, anyway i fixed it before i sold it, pull the valve cover off and look at the top tensioner, on my car it snapped off at the base and was sitting on the chain, apparently the chain would hit it and it would smack the bottom of the valve cover, i reomved it and the motor never mad a weird noise again, the sound i had sounded like a extreme rod knock and sounded like marbles rolling around in my motor, anyway i saved the top tensioner as a prize after i sold the car, i would check that first, its cheaper and the easiest thing u can do, lol i took it to Nissan and they said it was a death rattle and it would be a miracle if i made it out the parking lotLab4x16 wrote:I was thinking that. Like I said, I'm not the best under the hood. This is the first car i've ever worked on in my life so you can say I was/am a virgin to everything that has been done and will be done to this car. s*** I did my first oil change with this car.
I just spoke with a friend he said I should consider rebuilding it.I will make a video and post it on here just to show you guys the sound that it makes maybe you guys can enlighten me with a better answer to my dilema.
But if I could describe the sound, it's as if i put a handfull of marbles in my engine and they just rattle away..
Everything I've been told has been said by Mechanic's and well, in all reality I shouldn't even take their words into consideration.
