While I am driving my 97 J30, the back of the driver’s seat randomly moves forward, squeezing me against the steering wheel. I can lean the seat back but it is very uncomfortable both physically and mentally. I never know when of if it will happen. Any ideas?

Faulty or overly sensitive switch on the seat?

That's the first I've heard of a J30 seat moving on its own.

Set it where you want it and unplug the connector for the motor until you get it fixed

Thanks for the responses. Setting the seat to the position I want then disconnecting the power is the next step. Where I sit in relation to the back of the seat seems to make a difference. All I can think is that there must be a short or a something that’s activating the switch when I sit on a certain spot in the seat. Eventually I think I will have to remove the seat all together and rewire it.

Thanks again.

This May Help taken from http://fuzzycats.com/j30_diy.htm

Remove the front seats. These are attached with four bolts. Onceyou remove the bolts, tilt the seat towards the back seat. This willallow you access under the seat to disconnect the wiringharnesses. The driver side seat has two wiring harnesses, thepassenger side has a single harness. Be careful when removingthe seat from the car. The seat legs are very sharp and candamage the door trim. Do not attempt to carry the seat by holdingthe headrest. The front seats are fairly heavy and the weight cancause the headrest to move while your holding it.

Rename your car.It must not be named "Christine", nor anything similar. Also avoid playing or singing George Thorogood songs, and better tell it that you love it a little more often.

And for God's sake, don't let your girlfriend in the driver's seat! (unless of course, she has a high insurance policy with you as the beneficiary).

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Hahaha.......I used to own a Honda that was that way, I like your screen name I have referred to my J as the JapJag more than once, I think its the grille and the rear end (not to mention unibody) that are jag cues. Apologies if this is off topic Have a nice day.
