They both have advantages and drawbacks. I've had both setups and have been satisfied with the results of both with the expected performance and budget constrains involved. NO2 is a cheap way to get turbo/SC HP, but its only for a few seconds. 15 to 20 seconds and your wad is shot. If you plan all of your races that's fine and dandy, but if a ricer wants to talk some crap at a light, there's not enough time to run to the trunk and hook up the hose. If you plan on only using it on the track, go ahead and put some cash aside for a few trannies. The autos have smaller output shafts than the manual, and tend to grenade at a lower level of abuse. The up sides are, cheap power and easy install. I ran 12 to 15 bottles using a 150 dryshot and she never even sputtered, until my dad borrowed it and filled the tank with 87 octane as a nice gesture.
If you have the cash, I would suggest the supercharger if you want to keep the auto. Power is there all the time, install is an easy task if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. Keep in mind there is increased maintenance, computer tuning, and unless you drive like a grandmaw things will break.
If you want big power, turbo is the best way to go. It costs a lot of cash, and is a detailed install, and things will break at regular intervals.
I now run a TO4E turbo on a 2001 VQ30DEK in a 96 model maxima with a manual transmission from a 98. Mine was a manual to begin with, I have never done the auto swap. I love the car and have no plans to sell it. I take my clients to lunch in it all the time and it is a great conversation piece. However if I had it to do all over again I would not do it to a frond wheel drive car. Quafe quit making a diff for our car a few years back and there is no other way to eliminate torque steer.
I know this long winded response was not as definite as you would like, but the route you should go is directly related to the cash you have available and how far you are willing to go. Just make sure you have alternative means of transportation, no matter which route you take, just in case.
