I NEED more HP from my Max! My question to all is: should I go turbo or nitrous? I have an 01 3.0L with auto transmission. I see many problems with turbo; engine management, fitment, overall wear on the engine, boost spike, etc. With nitrous the problems are less, and cheaper in the short run. In the long run the turbo is cheaper because no need to refill bottles. Turbo has one advantage, I can run it all the time and eat a crustang or two. Nitrous I cannot run on the street, legally. So please voice your comments below. I am open to all suggestions!

And yes I've seen that bulls**t twin turbo Max. I want it classy, not crappy. So please don't link me to that fugly POS.

With the auto transmission, I voted spray.

Nitrous or supercharged, maximas are a pain to turbo (in my opinion)

well. i'd go supercharged over either on of those two but if i had to pick the lesser of two evils (for lack of a better term), i'd go with the spray.

Just supercharge it man. Spray will tear it up and turbo would have to be fabricated alot and cost to much. I think they make a supercharger kit for maxima's if im not mistaken that wont cost you all of your limbs

Spray if you are only going to use it "from time to time". The expense of a kit is cheaper. If you want boost, I suggest finding someone selling a used Stillen V2 SC > dealing with a turbo setup.

my plan is to spray and build a separate motor for boost and then have it ready for when the current motor goes. I guess that's a long term project- I JUST got the car yesterday.

i agree...im thinking more and more on adding a 50-shot setup after i get my stillen kit installed. my car currently has almost 104,000 miles with an auto transmission, so i think that'd prolly be the lesser of the evils! any opinions??

50 shot should be fine as long as you are not spraying off the line

off the line...come on, matt! lol! id like to at least try to win the race w/o using nos before i had to spray it! LOL. why use it if you dont NEED it, dont waste! besides, i dont think it would be good to use unless in WOT. but speaking of waste, a nice little purge kit would be some nicely added eye-candy!! hehehe!!

Yea I would def go with supercharger first and if not then give it the spray, I myself wasnt going to do much but since my friend works at Nissan Im prolly going to put a few things on it and a 75 to 100 shot within a few mths depending on how much I spend on my STI. However I would get a manual transmission first though, I hate auto's and wont have one unless its and Suv or a truck, better all the way for gas, wear, and everything else. So in order I'd get a manual, then supercharger if you can and if not then nos but also consider putting struts and stuff to keep the car to the ground bc eventhough you might gain 25 to 50 extra hp with nos it goes to waist fi you cant keep the wheels to the ground and no traction means no power so it wouldnt matter what you do.

They both have advantages and drawbacks. I've had both setups and have been satisfied with the results of both with the expected performance and budget constrains involved. NO2 is a cheap way to get turbo/SC HP, but its only for a few seconds. 15 to 20 seconds and your wad is shot. If you plan all of your races that's fine and dandy, but if a ricer wants to talk some crap at a light, there's not enough time to run to the trunk and hook up the hose. If you plan on only using it on the track, go ahead and put some cash aside for a few trannies. The autos have smaller output shafts than the manual, and tend to grenade at a lower level of abuse. The up sides are, cheap power and easy install. I ran 12 to 15 bottles using a 150 dryshot and she never even sputtered, until my dad borrowed it and filled the tank with 87 octane as a nice gesture.

If you have the cash, I would suggest the supercharger if you want to keep the auto. Power is there all the time, install is an easy task if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. Keep in mind there is increased maintenance, computer tuning, and unless you drive like a grandmaw things will break.

If you want big power, turbo is the best way to go. It costs a lot of cash, and is a detailed install, and things will break at regular intervals.

I now run a TO4E turbo on a 2001 VQ30DEK in a 96 model maxima with a manual transmission from a 98. Mine was a manual to begin with, I have never done the auto swap. I love the car and have no plans to sell it. I take my clients to lunch in it all the time and it is a great conversation piece. However if I had it to do all over again I would not do it to a frond wheel drive car. Quafe quit making a diff for our car a few years back and there is no other way to eliminate torque steer.

I know this long winded response was not as definite as you would like, but the route you should go is directly related to the cash you have available and how far you are willing to go. Just make sure you have alternative means of transportation, no matter which route you take, just in case.

If you have the time, money and patience, build a custom setup. Check out:http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/
