By diagnostic screen - you mean the one on the dash? The dual trip meter that also says thinks like "OK" or "Tail Light Out"?

To my knowledge, the only codes you'll pull with that screen are transmission codes - and it's not done with a code reader.

The info screen on the dash is backlit by two bulbs, so if they're out - you won't see much. You might be able to shine a flashlight at them to see if the numbers are there - even though there's no light behind them to illuminate them.

Good luck!

You could try replacing the bulbs - easy to do once you get the cluster out. Here's an old thread on the subject. Be sure to read the threads in my post there, too. Lot's of detail.

Mileometer? You mean the trip odometer on the bottom right, or the main one? If it's the main one you might need a new (used) cluster. If it's the trip ones, you just need bulbs.
