I got a letter in the mail yesterday saying that they'd buy back my versa at blue book value, lol

Nissan wants to make more money.

The exact same car I bought three months ago is listed at a thousand dollars more than it was in September.

A used Versa will sell the same as a new one did a few months ago.

Last I checked, there was no blue book value. What IS the book value? It should be MSRP on a 2007 vehicle shouldn't it?

Blue book value for an SL CVT is $16,627.00.

The blue book value is what people really pay for the car. MSRP stays the same, but the amount dealerships charge changes according to demand, so if the demand is higher, so is the resale value. If the demand was really high, you could get as much or more than you paid for the car.

Course I'm not gonna sell it back, I'd be carless, lol.

Besides, I love my Versa.

I might be, but it would be very hard to find a replacement... and the only reason would be because of the accident, which would be a little difficult to hide without at least changing out the license plates.

Expect these letters from time-to-time. I get a couple a year telling me there is a shortage of 2k2 Maximas and they would like to buy mine and discuss putting me in a new one.

Gee, thanks for wanting to continue my debt with Nissan.

It's like they are giving you the opportunity to become the dealer. I say work with them. Make sure you show them your invoice and then show them your own "suggested resale" value. Don't forget the extra junk fees that you can throw in there. Give them a time range that you'll have the car in (2-3 weeks), but tell them a few day later that you don't know where the car could be. Then offer them your neighbor's car for the same price. After that, I don't think they would want it anymore.

If they want to work with you, use this situation to your advantage. If you have any free time, go over to the dealer and weigh your options. Perhaps you can talk them into putting you into an '06 Altima for the same price. I'm just addressing the possibilities, I would keep my V, but I know there are some out there who would rather have an Altima, Sentra, or Maxima instead. I'm sure you can talk them into something like that, with all of the incentives and their willingness to get the older models off of the lot to make more room for newer models.

For what it's worth, I also received a letter like this a year after I bought my V6 Optima, specifically stating that the dealership was running short on V6's. I confirmed this, went to the lot and didn't find a single V6 on their lot.

So I decided to find out just how much they were going to work with me.

Turns out, not much. $19,500 car new. One year old, about 10,000 miles on the clock at the time. They would not budge over $9000. C'mon, guys... I know it's a Kia, but 50% depreciation in one year? Screw yourselves...

So if you DO explore it, be prepared for the dealer to offer you $12k or $13k tops for an SL, maybe $10k for an S.

They said they'd offer you blue book value. Maybe it's a BS form letter and they don't realize book value=MSRP. I'd at least be currious.

I tried to trade mine in on a Frontier last week. They wouldn't go over 12k. For reference, i bought my 6mt conv package for 15,700 and it has 3400 miles on it.

thanks for the input! now I know where I might stand with trading this in for an Altima coupe or the SL Sentra.
