A couple of months back I bought a lil dat 64/6? off ebay for $800 aus. The ad read "no rust bare metal respray" so far I have found enough rust to warrant a sill, floorpan and kick panel replacement. All the wiring had been sprayed black with enamel, the brake and clutch cylinders were ceased and the carbie is missing links. So far I have got all the electrics working and have cut some rather obsene looking parts out of the car. I will post pictures soon and I will describe in great detail how to remove the sill sections to anyone thats game. It has a j15 engine in it which i have no idea about but I found an old toyota corolla carbie that bolts straight on.

I have never heard of an $800 ute with no rust so I knew what I was up against. The good thing is these utes are made so simply. You can access every piece of steel in them from both sides easily.(A few nip and tucks) Here are the replace ment sill sections. The flat plate and brackets are made from 1.6mm gal m/s and the sill itself is made from 1.2mm gal m/s.

here is the new tray. I had to cut 1' out of it in length so now it needs the floor boards put in and a coat of paint. Colour choice for the inside of the cab and the tray is "Ontario Violet"

This is the rear cab mount bracket which should be joined to the floor and the sill section. Mine were not due to rust. Now that I have finally got around to making all the pieces I can start welding them together. Let the games begin!

Today on my way home from work I dropped in on this guy who has a lot of old holdens in his yard and inquired about FJ and FX head light rims as I'm looking for a set for the ute. He told me that Smorgans Steel (a scrap metal yard) had picked up a Vauxhal this morning and he thinks the lights would be similar. When I got to the yard I saw this poor old Vauxhal lying under a couple of other cars with the head lights still intact. The yardy let me borrow his screw driver and wahla I had 2 complete headlight units for free. I took them home and this is what I found!

I've been busy on my morrie so this is all I have done to the ute so far. The speedo was almost unreadable so a little bit of steady hand work and a white paint pen prooved beneficial.

welded in the new sill section. I now have to do the finishing plates to create the shape for the lower rear section of the cab and the A post. once this is done I will weld in the floor pan and then sand blast all the welds.

This is a 120y carby. It's sitting on a 12mm adaption plate I made and it has a machined air filter adaption so a K&N filter or DRIFT filter etc can be fitted no worries. The Idle solenoid has been removed and plugged for clearance. The throat diameters are the same as the original carby so it should run fine. I haven't fired it up yet. This carby is only temporary as it belongs to my morrie. I'm rebuilding a toyota carby at the moment which will become a permanent resident on the j15.

the carby adaptation plate looks good!

did you make this yourself?

What engine are you planning to drop in your 320?

Yes I made the carby gear myself. For now the J15 engine will stay. Once I have finished the morrie and the ute is on the road I will start looking at a V6 engine but that is a fair way off. I'm on the look out for a disc brake conversion. I just need the time to measure hubs off other utes so I can work out what needs to be machined and where to place the holes for the adaption plate. Oh well back to what I have done. I made this in my lunch break today. I say out with the old and in with the new!
