My dad is giving me his 06 M35X. ive always loved it, and ive been an Nissan/Infiniti fan for the longest... now that its gonna be mines i want to have it running right. he didn't take any care her. throttle response is WEAK! it takes longer to accelerate than i know it should. the steering has a kinda stiff feeling to it, the slip light is ALWAYS on, the brake light is ALWAYS on and the VDC off light is ALWAYS on... she has 164,000 miles too. i think its the only M on the road with fogged headlights...    its shame that he didn't take care of a car this sick... any of you guys think you may know what these problems may be??

Sorry to hear about the troubles, but at least she is in good hands now! As far as the lights being on, on the dash I would check your brake fluid level or possibly your brakes need replacing soon. If the steering is feeling stiff, take a look at the power steering fluid and see how dark it is. If it is too dark, you will definitely need to replace the fluid. Do you know if the spark plugs/tune up has been completed on it? This could be leading to the throttle response also. Sounds like it just needs a little TLC. Go by autozone or a parts store and pick up a headlight restoration kit to bring the shine back into your fogged headlights. Post up a couple pictures!

I hope your Dad at least replaced the oil and oil filter once in a while! When I bought my 2007 M45 Sport two years ago, one of the headlights was badly fogged. It's a pretty easy fix, however. You should probably replace ALL of the fluids at this point: transmission, rear diff., coolant, and brake fluid, as well as the power steering fluid.. Resetting the ECU would be worth a try, as well. Since your local dealer is Pearson Infiniti, call them and ask them how much to have them put the car on their diagnostic computer and check what codes are being thrown.

I would change all of the fluids and spark plugs... then you'll be good for a while on those.
Vinyl wrap the headlights.
Then get new rims:

Oh, yeah, those rims . . . You can do a lot better! Love the car, though; reminds me of mine. Fix those headlights with a do-it-yourself kit or call Dr. Headlight or Merchants Tire in the Richmond area and have them do it. The car will look so much better and you'll have more light on the road! I seem to recall reading on this forum about the trouble lights for the braking system coming on if the brake wear sensor was damaged or unplugged. Wonder if that happened when the brake work was done . . . Anyone else remember that discussion? Was it some other kind of sensor?

Oh, I think it was the ABS sensor that I was thinking about.

I have to laugh a little as it sounds like my father. His idea of maintence was what I called "break down maintence". If it didn't run anymore he would get it fixed. Oil changes to him were adding two quarts when it needed it. If it were me I'd bring it up to what the factory recommends in its maintence schedule for fluids and have a total check of all safety related items. Then do the other items that are more cosmetic in nature. Good luck, you can't beat a free car.

165K is a lot of miles though, maybe he wasn't as bad as you think. (by the pics, it looks quite good for that milage) :dblthumb: I would recommend using any "modification" funds on maintenance that this car will definately be needing in the future.

Its not that bad, just replace the worn out parts and keep it clean. for the headlights, restore, never dull works nice on them.

thanks guys. he kept up the exterior. if it looks good, he doesnt care about the rest i guess... now he claims the lights on the dash are from "a blown fuse" yeah right! its beleavable but ive slipped the car a couple times when i know it shoudnt have happened, and the vdc switch STAYS on... something isnt right with that. as for the headlights, we tried a couple of polishers and stuff but i think maybe they just need to be sanded down.
