I may be retarded, and correct me if I am, but I don't see that cage doing a whole lot? Don't the cross bars in the middle help out a lot?

and doesnt it have to pass inspection therefore eliminating the whole idea of making it custom?

There is a removable bar that runs across the back seat to complete the triangle.I wanted to still use the back seat for the kids to ride in.They love to go for rides in daddy's race car.

It's not custom until it passes inspection??? What. It's custom because we built it from scratch, bent the pipes made the fish mouths and welded in.This was all done from straight pipes.

Sorry,no can do.Maybe at the start of winter we can make you a cage. It's race season.

he meant that designing your own rollcage that is not up to your class' specs kinda pwns you. All that time and effort and the cage isn't legal cause you deviated from the standard in one way or another. I would assume though, that you did check your class/etc. requirements and built your cage accordingly.

Cool stuff. I'd like to see shots of the cage from father away. Is there a hoop above the driver's head? I can't see it in the pics.

The rulebook says:
7. Plating and brackets should equal or exceed tubing wall. Welded joints in
the basic cage not containing a continuous tube section must be
reinforced with gussets, sleeves, or diagonals so that weld equals 2x tube
circumference. Welds must be fully penetrated, all around the tube.
Minimum weld section should equal tubing wall. Filler/sealer in the weld
area is not acceptable. 4” minimum of weld on (welded) belt/harness
mounts and seat mounts. Alloy (i.e.4130) and titanium cages are
acceptable at the discretion of the tech committee. Entrants should be
prepared to furnish material certification and the credentials of the
welder, current applicable FIA and SEMA spec cages with documention
are acceptable. Aluminum tubing and any cast or forged fittings are NOT
acceptable.
Not sure if that bolt-in section will be acceptable. :gotme Perhaps it qualifies as a "continuous tube section." If so, very interesting! Don't think I've seen that before.

Who knows, though. Different tech directors have different rule interpretations.

Okay. The cage was built with the rules in mind, but i wanted to use my back seat also.It was built to the hill climb rules.I was required only one diagonal bar.The removable bar is 1and 3 quarter.Only required 1 and a half.So hopefully with a extra diagonal bar and the removable one being bigger it will be okay.It might not pass some rules only because i did seam seal the joints.I did get the okay from the tech from the hillclimbs. He saw the welds before i did it. We have a big problem here in New England called rust.It sucks and will eat your car away.So i sealed the crap out of it.The car is pretty much rust free.Love to keep it that way.Oh and the roll cage was made from DOM pipe not rolled and welded. The rules only required rolled and welded pipe.Another plus.
Thanks for the replys. Please be kind.I worked my a** off on this.I did most of the work.Welding was done bye a license welder.I can weld but not license to do it.Bent the pipes, made the fish mouth and he welded everything up.He did help with the design also,as he has built a few before.
Well here it is all painted silver.

I finally got to drive it today, first time in like 6 months.Missed it allot. The cage made a big differ ants in the overall stiffness, but not to much on the weight.Still went good. Race coming up this weekend.

Thanks for clarifying. Glad to see your not just some idiot with a welder that decided to make his own rollcage that will now prevent him from entering in every racing organization in the country. (Trust me its happened before) Awesome job man and yea salt can eat a car away.

Thanks guys.I have done all the work on my car and plan on doing the rest, but with the roll cage i worked with a professional. Can not mess around with that part of the build.
I will have some pics after this weekend.Right now i have to get ready for this weekend.I'm going to replace the front suspension bushing with nismo ones.I have poly bushings all around but do not like the front ones that came in the kit.The Nismo ones look good. Also want to do the engine mounts.Have nismo transmission mount allready.I do have aluminum sub frame bushing but will do them later. Thanks again.

Thanks. Weighed the car today and it weighed 2680.Before it was 2800.Now i do not have the passenger seat in or the carpet. My son was in the car last time.He weighs about 50,but even then the car did not gain any weight from the cage.I did take out allot of sound deading material from both the drivers and passenger floors as well as the firewall.I really did expect it to weigh 200 plus more.I did use the same scale as last time, but ha i'm not complaining.I'ts really a good thing.I do have some pics of the car after i painted it last summer.

Here are some of the mods i have done so far:
AGX adjustable with s-tech springs
Energy suspension bushing all around
s-14 lsd
Electric fan
Throttle body coolant delete
emissions delete
s-14 manual seat belts
Gas shocks for the hood, got rid of the hood rod.
Nissan quest alternator.
Custom cat back exhaust 2 and half
K@N air filter
Nissan Titans Nissan emblem.Replaced the one on the bumper for the Titans one.Much bigger.
After market oil and volts gauges.
Manual antenna
Nissmo transmission mount
I think thats it.
Mods to do:
Nissmo engine mounts
Aluminum sub frame bushing
Front Nissmo suspension bushing.Did not like the one that came in the energy kit.
Stainless steel clutch line
I have all these parts just need to install
I'm still working on the brakes.I have the 300z turbo front and rear calipers and master cylinder.Along with the stainless steel conversion brake lines.Still need hubs, rotors, automatic brake booster and rims to complete.
Now that i have jump up in class due to the roll cage i can now do what ever i want under the hood.Havent made up my mind yet on what to do.Either turbo the ka or do the ls1 swap.
My next purchase will be strut tower braces and up graded sway bars.I will be making a front suspension brace for the lower half.
Thanks for reading.I have been a member for 2 years now and have not posted a lot,but have search and found what i needed.Lots of info on this forum so thanks for all the good info.I hope that i can help someone with these pics of the roll cage.
