Is this a product of the CVT or is it a problem?

My '08 2.5S slows down when I let off of the gas, enough that it is pretty noticeable... it will drop maybe 5mph in 3 seconds, that might be overstating it but it is noticeable... it sort of comes and goes, sometimes it will start to slow down then it will start coasting correctly, I think other times it will coast ok then will start to slow, although that doesn't happen as often, if at all, I've only had the thing for 2 days so its hard to say.

I don't like it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the search button for engine coast mode, that should answer your questions.

if i recall correctly, it's something that nissan programmed into the car. you should be able to ask your dealership to turn it off.

ummm really? sorry if this sounds rude or anything but all cars do that when you let off the gas... its the friction between everything from the transmission, drive train, wheels on the ground, gravity, etc that slows the car down when no power is being applied to it to keep the constant motion of the car. unless your talking about cruise control than thats a different issue. you could try putting the car in neutral to reduce the friction you get from the transmission. other than that not sure what else.

The car suppose to slow down if foot is off the gas. Well i suppose if your car have 400-600 HP going.. your car might just coast at 30+ mile per hour no problem without having foot on the gas =)

Tried finding the thread, couldnt find it.

@ OP, try and take notice of when it happens. Is it more when coasting on a downgrade?

This is what you were looking for, has been discussed almost 2 years ago:
aerodynamic-drag-or-mechanical-problem-t425165.html

P.S. Don't ask the dealer to use CONSULT III to turn the engine braking off, I did and they charged me $98 for 1 hour minimum, and it's not actually for that purpose. The engine braking that I had them turned off was for going down hill. In regular cars you have to step on the brake to slow the car down when going down hill, but the AC engages engine braking so it keeps your speed constant. This has nothing to do with the AC coasting slower than other cars, 'cause I've measured it and it was the same after it was "turned off". I personally saw the tech changed the engine braking to off, so I know the dealer did change it and not just BS'ed.

Thank you. Thats not actually the thread I was looking for but to the same end. Funny how the OP on this post and the OP on that post both gave the same specs of 5MPH in 3 seconds.

Yeah, I think it's just an easy way to measure how fast the AC slows down.
I actually measured it in a similar way like them after the engine braking has been "turned off". It took 6 seconds to slow down 10 miles in D pre and post "turn off" but about 9 seconds to slow down 10 miles in N.
