My blue Coupe 2.5S came with detail stripes, straight out of the 1990s. I'm not thrilled with them, but I'm not sure I want to spend the money to get them off.

The issue was that this was the ONLY blue 2.5 Coupe with Premium Pkg. in the area. There was ONE other one, but the price they were asking for it was ludicrous. So I went with this one, detail stripes and all, because the price was right. I wasn't charged extra for the stripes because I don't even think the salesman knew the stripes were on it when he called the other dealer to check if they had a blue 2.5 with premium package.

Anyways, check it out for yourself and tell me what you think I should do...

It is so easy to take them off, it isn't even funny. I have personally pulled them off of about 10 cars with zero issues. The easiest way is to grab a hair drier and heat them up a little and then start peeling on one end. Then, keep peeling until you get to the other end (It really is that easy!). Repeat with other side

You can still do it with no heat, but the heat makes it a little easier, plus, with the heat, you can go ahead and debadge

DO NOT LET THE PINSTRIPE STOP YOU FROM BUYING THIS CAR! I promise you that you will not mess it up unless the car is about 5 years old and faded to crap (which it is not).

^ I already bought it.

I just can't decide if I want to take it off, haha. I guess knowing that dealers actually CHARGE EXTRA for something like this and the fact that I got it for free makes me want to keep it...but then I take a step back and look at it, vomit a little in my mouth, and I come back to reality to realize that they need to come off.

i hate pinstripes!!! i just think they make a car look cheap for some reason....imho. to each their own but i don't like them. when we bought our 06 civic the only ones they had on the lot had stipes and i told them i would only buy if they removed them. so i didnt take delivery til that was done. but yeah they are super easy to take off!

Alright, well then, that settles it. Off they'll go!

It will be a week or two before I get a couple of hours free to do it (I'm in graduate school, after all), so until then, thanks everyone for your input!

Nice car dude, but please take off the stripes. Why do dealers do dumb S*#T like this. Little add-ons that "make customers" like the cars more. YEAH RIGHT!!! Your car is nice dude just take the stripes off please.

Gold on stripes on a RED coupe.. mine are coming off as soon as I get back from the keys, now that theyve had time to bake on for another week *grumbles*.. (weather wasnt permitting before I left to remove)

I'm glad this question was asked...I was looking at my car and was frustrated because my wheels have a small red stripe and the car has a stupid gray pinstripe.

Those things were stuck on mine when I picked it up. Not even 2 hours after driving it off the lot, I peeled those artificial seams off.

Get 'em off quick so the clearcoat can even out!

Those stripes really detract from the natural lines of the vehicle. Definitely addition by subtraction.

mine came with them too lucky me my cars white and the stripes are black so they dont stand out as much as the gold on blue but I still hate them. how would the clear coat even out without it being resprayed? or sanded down? thats pretty much the only reason i havnt taken mine off Im scared to damage the clear...

umm u shouldnt worry cause stripes are stickers the dealer puts on em..its not a factory item...meaning they were put on AFTER ur car was sprayed ...but get em off as soon as you can so the wear will be even on your paint,,

just for the record....mine came wit em too...a dark grey double stripe on my precision grey...i sort kinda like it...and left it!!

Not to thread jack or anything, but I called the people who did my pinstriping and they are painted on. The lady I spoke to suggested that I take it to a body shop and have them wet sand it...

Took off pinstriping off my car today. Came off so easy made me laugh to think dealers charge so much for it. it didn't look too bad being they were black on silver but i did not like the idea of them messing up my paint and cracking after time. if i really wanted some stickers on my car i could always ask the the 6 year old girl across the street to come decorate my car.

My dealer said clearcoat isn't used anymore because of environmental concerns. So I had the waxjob put on (yeah, I know). So my question is if I take the stripes off (sort of whitish-gray on black) I guess I could just wax where the stripe was ???

they switched to water based clear coat due to enviromental concerns at least in the domestic market ... theres still a clearcoat though.. i think they might have just said that to sell you the paint protection

looks like something my grandpa would do... <shrugs>

yea, you could just wax over the area (or the whole car to make it look nice and shiny!) and it should make everything look good as new

edit: (sorry)...

scandanavian is right - clear coat paint jobs still do exist; look at the new GT-R, it has 3 clear coats for added paint chipping protection
