My clutch pedal only comes out most of the way, then pops out the rest shortly after

Whats causing this? I haven't found a similar topic in the archives.

All the while I'm driving, when i elt out the clutch it comes back almost the entire way, and then kinda pops out the rest. I have no problem shifting, clutch isn't on its way out...

Any ideas? I think this might be a simple fix if I knew where to look.

thnx,

lbrowne

Yea, sounds hydraulic related. Don't just go replacing your master cylinder. You might try just bleeding the lines first. Only takes like 10 minutes.

Bleed both valves on the bottom. On the slave cylinder and on the actuator going to the slave. Try flushing the old fluid out if you haven't done it. also try to adjust the adj. screw that goes in to the pedal. These are the cheapest things to look at before replacing it but it sounds like the clutch cylinder to me too.

yeah my master cylinder went out after a good while of slow leaks. You might just want to check your hydrolic fluid levels.

Since I've never checked these levels before, would someone kinda help me a bit? I have a manual here but you'd probably be able to explain to me faster...

the reservoir for the clutch is the smaller of the two. on the firewall behind and to the outside of the brake reservoir. the slave will be on passenger side of transmission . take a piece of hose that fits tightly over the bleeder valve of the slave.run the tube into a small container with brake fluid in it. enough fluid that it covers the bottom of the hose. make sure the reservoir is full. loosen the valve and push the clutch in. if no bubbles come out your line is bled. tighten the valve. if bubbles come out repeat the steps til no bubbles come out. be sure to keep the reservoir full

Good bleeding instructions.Just to let you know...if it is bad, it is a B|tch to get right again.. you may want to take it to the shop rather than do it yourself.. the actuall replacement of the master and slave isnt that tough, but getting the air out of the system is. The tube runs pretty much straight up, then back down. This makes an awesome spot for an air bubble to hide.. almost impossible to remove with regular bleeding methods. My Mechanic said he had to rig a system that "blasted" brake fluid through the line to remove the bubble. It must have been tough.. a simple clutch cylinder replacement ended up taking a whole day.. and this is the best Nissan guy in North Florida.

As far as I know this is the best way to solve all those problems, read about the clutch box removal here http://sr20.hybrids.jp/install...html, as soon as I replace my clutch this bad boy is comin off too. Hope this helps.

I've heard about that box, but the link isn't working. Do you know where you can buy the replacement line.

Also, just to make sure, you can use brake fluid in clutch line right?

I got mine from http://www.k2rd.com

The part is for an FC32 part # 141-2000

Works great. I love it.

You pull the rubber line as well as the box. Then you just need to bend the hardline to the end of the new line and your set. Watch the hardline clearance up top depending on how you are bending it (Pipe bender or by hand). Then be sure to check for any leaks. I didnt tighten the hardline end down enough the first time.

And, yes, you use brake fluid in the clutch line. DOT 3 or 4 (available at any auto parts store) will do fine.

I know someone who has this device that you use for automotive like brake fluid and the like, you hook it up to the proper lines of what you want to make sure the air bubbles are out of, and itblasts the fluid through the lines....

Maybe I'll get a lend of this, but before I do....how can i check to see if the fluid is low that maybe just adding more brake fluid may help for the short term....

(I'm assuming theres a level it should be at in the master cylinder)

Thanks,

lbrowne

The clutch master cylinder is to the right of the brake master cylinder (looking from the bumper into the engine). The smallest cylinder on the rightmost of the firewall. You can't miss it. It has inidcators on the plastic reservoir. Low and High (If I remember correctly). If there is still fluid in the reservoir then adding fluid will not fix the problem. It will require a bleed. Depends on if you want to do it with the b**** box on it or not. Good luck.
