my clutch feels kinda softer in the morning, and as the day progresses, it gets back to normal tension. I just replaced the clutch, pivot bolt, and slave cylinder....should i replace the master too?

I had to have the master and slave replaced after the clutch acted kinda....sticky....after a time. I would drive and the clutch pedal would stay half way depressed or whatever and barely engaged when i totally depressed it. Eventually I had to drive the car to the shop by turning the car on and off when I needed to shift....pain in the ***. Is your problem similiar, or totally different?

If by softer you mean the clutch releases very close to the floor and then as the day goes on it releases further from the floor, then yes, replace the master. The other thing you could try, is re-bleeding the slave.

softer meaning it takes less effort to push it in.

Got the same problem. Cold fluid more spongey doesn't push back as quick, i dunno, just guessing. I don't know much about the clutch system...

actually he is right....when fluids are cold they actually expand making it less lubricating...that is why it is hard to shift in the mornings :) especially if you have synthetic fluid like me!

so a new master cylinder wouldn't help that? it's just gonna always be soft in the morning?

I have noticed the squishy clutch on my 240 as well. However, not in all mornings; only when it is very cold.

I'm guessing that I have a small amount of air in my clutch fluid and the cold is compressing it, making a lot of freeplay in the clutch pedal. I must note that the squishyness only lasts until it compresses the pressure plate. That makes me think that it isn't the clutch itself or the pedal.. just the fluid or something that would create a squishy feeling rather than the stiffness it usually has.

This is off subject, but does any other 240 have a very quick engaging clutch? I'm talking about the difference between no engagement and full engagement is like an inch of pedal play. I'm not complaining, it feels good, but it made my first day with my baby a learning experience and I'm wondering if all of them are this way.

sorry about the long post..

when i got my new clutch it engaged **** fast.....too fast. it would scratch from 3rd->4th if i didn't power shift it @ high rpm......after the master/slave i had to get the peddle adjusted cause it was like that too...the clutch pedal pratically didn't do anything until almost all the way out and then it snapped into action....guy adjusted it in like 2 seconds, but i didn't watch him do it

When I change a clutch I usually put new fluid and change all parts changable. Readjust the clutch lever and bleed if necessary. Never hurts to do more than nesassary.
