guys...i have some questions...about doin the clutch.....I honestly have never done something like this......But i have done alot of other crap to other cars but never a clutch.....question is....is this all mechanical or is there anything that needs to be hooked up to a computer to be modified from software. A buddy of mine mentioned something about a smec. and that it needs to be hooked up to a computer to have the syncros aligned or something to that effect. THESE are not exact words that he said but is there something to this effect or is it all mechanical...

can i just go under this car pull it down change everything and then put it back together again bleed the lines and run it!?!?!

help me please guys...cause i have to do this in 8 hours.

IIRC, it's all mechanical. The only thing that could possibly be considered computerized are the sensors that plug back into the transmission, obviously not a problem.

Yes, your friend is on crack.

Everything is mechanical. When you take the transmission off you'll see how very simple it is. The only thing I'm not sure about is if you need some kind of clutch alignment tool. I've never actually done a clutch swap but I have taken apart the the transmission, clutch and pressure plate... heres a link to my imagestation gallery, you'll find a few pics I snapped of the inside of the bellhousing, clutch and pressure plate...

If you can take off a transmission, you can replace a full clutch assembly. It's cake. You need a torque wrench though, and you need to have the flywheel resurfaced before you install the clutch. You should also have an alignment tool. (Usually comes with kits). Hopefully you know how to torque bolts down in sequence.

I wouldn't let your friend near the vehicle if he was seriously speaking about "synchros" during a clutch install conversation.

WELL....piss....I didnt do it. no big excuses except that me and my dad didnt have enuff time in the day and maybe not enuff tools. I was not worries about stuff till i looked up at the freakin starter and found out there is another bolt on the other side of it. I dont even know how the hell i was gonna get the starter off. Also another bolt up by the top of transmission on the driver side...those looked like hell....we dont own a compresser and i wasnt sure if he had a long enuff extension. So we said fk it.

Ill prolly get a shop to do it. Believe me im not a lazy person...and my days off are split. So my off time is short. I know i could have done it.

I couldnt pick the clutch kit up till 11am so i got to my parents and threw it up on jacks. I was like oh ****e. plus it was feckin cold. even tho it hit 54 ...the wind was blowin like 20 mph...grrrrr.

Im still pissed i couldnt do it. NO garage, no lighting, not enuff tools and not enuff time. piss on it all.

Don't give up. Just rent some tools.

It helps to have an FSM too. I can email you the clutch service portion if you need it.
