My rb20det clip came yesterday from Venus and this is what I think so far:

Bad=the mounting peg for the radiator was crack off and there is a large hole in the bottom of the radiator, the ac compressor was completely jacked, and the shipping was for ****. When I pay that much for a lift gate the least the driver can do is put it on the lift gate

Good=everthing else seems to be there, the fenders have the gt shield on them, the shifter has a billet knob, it came with after market pedels, and a complete drive shaft w/ yoke

Things I know I'll need = fuel pump(got ), down pipe,radiator, fan(s),300zx clutch,gasket kit

Anything else that I dont know about just let me know

I say at least get a boost gauge, temp gauge, and oil pressure gauge. A timing belt wouldn't be far down my list either.

I pulled my oil pan and resealed it w/ RTV before it went into the car (oil change at the same time).

You never know with these clips, I had a new clutch on mine when I pulled the trans, so you might want to take a look. I would also suggest going over all of your coolant/vac lines to see if there is any dry rot and replace the ones that are failing (easier when it's out of the car to do this).

Once it is in the car I would recommend do a operating temp compression check, and an oil change within the first 3-600mi to check for any metal shavings in the drained oil and cut open the oil filter to check in there as well.

That's all I can think of for now. Good luck and congrats on getting your RB.

Try and snag a R32 gauge cluster. I know someone who can get you one for around $70. Mines on the way so I'll let you know how it works out.

My best guess would be to check the clutch disk for warping/wear etc. But I don't exactly know either :pface

a glazed clutch will still have friction material on it, but will have a blue/purple haze on it-change it, if the friction material is close to the rivets-change it,it the spring are real loose(ready to fall out)-change it

I know the Ka cluster is a little harder to wire, but I want to keep the factory interior

I had mckinney do the wiring harness for my RB25 into s13, and it allowed me to keep the stock 240 cluster. It was like 350bucks, but I didn't have to figure any of it out (yea I know I am a slacker, but I wanted it running fast).

My tack is off (but close if you adjust the hell out of it). My speedo is off as well but they sell adjustments for it. The funny thing about the speedo, is that if I look at the kilometer speeds, they match the MPH speed that I am actually going. Takes some time to get used to looking at the small numbers, but hey it works.

Might want to try one of these different speedo pinions to fix your speedometer. http://www.courtesyparts.com/nms/s13/s13_4.html

i have been curious about this for a while. The people that send their harness to get done by McKinney, what all do they send? i mean, from what i read, it seems that there are really 2 harnesses, the engine and the dash. But aren't these both connected to one another? i have been confused about this, so someone clear me up please.

It is basically extending what doesn't reach and integrating the motor harness into the chassis. I don't know what all McKinney requires you to send them (lower chassis and engine harnesses I assume), but if I was selling my services I'd charge the same as they do as well. The price looks very reasonable considering time and materials.

Thats an excellent resource. Now do you have one like that for Mazda..?

You could actually say there are 3 harnesses. Interiorupper engine harness lower engine harness (conects to your transmission)

You send them both upper engine harness's (RB, and the KA)

they splice it together, eliminate what you don't need and send back a working harness.

Then you take the lower harness from the KA and connect up your transimission sensors to the RB transmission.

temp sensor, speedo, tack, and everything else works like it did before. Only problem is that the tack and speedo can't read correctly from the RB25 (I hear the speedo works fine if you swap out the sensors from the KA to the RB20, but I don't have one so I don't know)I have been using an APEXI rev speed meter, until I get a chance to figure something else out.

rbsileighty, I have looked at the speedo pinions, but I haven't quite figure out what I need yet. I would hate to buy the wrong thing. I have been thinking about trying a speedo from a 300ZX, if I can find one:)

you say that the cluster works as it did, but do all the instruments in the clustr work porperly too(ie the indicator lights and such)? i though that a few do work, but that you have to modify the interor harnessone too?

What he said. I would assume that this set up would work better because this gauge set is meant to be run with a 6 cylinder engine. I can't speak from personal experience yet as I am stilll awaiting mine.

like i said the tack and speedo are wrong because it is the KA 4 banger cluster. Everything else is fine.
