lol cool so I should take it to the dealer? If so I need a big list of things that them bungholes should look at. I took it in for a PM (Periodic Maintanance) and they messed up my wheel alignment. They need to realign my tires, and fix this rust crap. Just sucks that I have to take it to them because they will take weeks to fix it.

There is a fine print, not warranty rust from out side in, like in the front where a stone chipped the paint and get rusted, may be I am wrong.

Are you positive it is rust? And not just grime?

The bumper is plastic. Plastic doesn't rust.

"All over" the trunk and sides of the car? Cars today use galvanized steel panels. I find it hard to believe a car so new would be rusting so soon. Are there large paint chips exposing metal or was the trunk or panels dented?

The bumpers are plastic. They can't rust.

I had something that look like rust but I later found out it was from parking under a certain type of tree that dropped pollen and it was the pollen that looked just like rust and it even grew..... so try a good wash and clay first and yes it is very hard for plastic to rust!

Not very hard - impossible. Rust is oxidized metal. No metal = no rust.

Sounds like your car needs a good washing / waxing. Rust doesn't spread like that.

It may sound pointless now but it says that you live in New York, pretty sure it snows there same as here, I would recommend at least once a month go get your car washed. The salt and crap on the streets can really take a toll on your paint and car in general, but rusting that fast is a little unusual.

Good Luck

I'll bet you some money that if you take a pre-wax cleaner all the "little rust spots" will go away.

It's not rust by the way. It's just brake dust/grime. Very noticeable on lighter colored cars.

Good luck!

I noticed this after a carwash, it might be something off trees, been parking under a tree, and side of my car was all in oil used in subways, because i parked under the subway tracks.

I have the life time rust warranty. I got it when I got the car. If any rust shows the fix it for free. The brake pads they use have little bits of metal in them. That could be it and just driving in a car wash doenst get all the crap off. A nice hand wash would do it and a nice hand wax jop too.

I also live in NYC and the salt they throw eats up the car. But I only noticed rust in a spot where I was hit and I scraped off the drop of rust and put on some touch up paint. Now no rust anywhere on the car except for the brake rotors after it rains and the car has been sitting. Using the brakes gets rid of that. I would suggest a spray detailer and wiping it off. More likely than not it is not rusting. Maybe some rust falling on the car from the tracks up above. Just my $0.02

It's not rust. It's some sort of fallout.

Its not surface rust its particulate fallout like semi metallic brake dust that is bonded with the surface of the paint. Its really noticeble on white and silver cars. This can be easily removed when its actually warm enough to wash your car.

Using a clay bar kit you can buy at any auto parts store and then reapply wax to protect you paint finish.

A good website to visit for tutorials on clay baring is

http://articles.autopia.org/ar....html

This should help correct your spots.

I recently had an issue with rail fallout. It turned out that my white G35x was positioned in a bad spot on the railway ride over and got covered in the stuff. Apparently, the dealer did not do a proper cleaning prior to delivery and within 2 months, I had a ton of rust spots on my car. I took it back and they said they would do a thorough cleaning of the car. When I got the car back, it appeared as though all the spots were gone. But recently, I noticed some rust spots again! Where the rust spots are coming back, it appears that there is a tiny little chip in the paint on the vertical face of the trunk.

I'm wondering if a prolonged duration of rail dust on the paint surface can somehow actually 'eat into' your paint and cause chips? I'm just really surprised that this is happening to a car that is only about 4 months old! I'm really hoping that the dealership will be willing to do something about this. But based on the warranty posted, paint chips from debris etc..isn't covered. So I'm hoping that I can find a reason to get the dealer to pay for it.

If they are indeed tiny paint chips, what would be the best and most cost-effective way to fix it? Thanks!

That dust will not eat through paint. Would you post some pics. I don't believe you're seeing rust. It's galvanized steel.

Settle down. It's not rust. It's small ferrous metal particals that stick to your car body. It's only visible on light colored cars. You can do a search under "rail dust" for a similar occurrence. My wife's white Versa gets it and I can only get it off with polishing compound. It does return in about 6 months. Clay bar does not work. It's a drawback to owning a white car.
