Has anyone ever run across this problem before: You drive you car 30-40 miles, she runs perfectly fine, park it, wait an hour, and when you try to start it starts, but it idles VERY rough and studders, when you give it some gas it dies.

This is what is happening to me, and specifically in the colder weather(30 - 50F), when the temperature is 70F, it has a higher possibility of starting. After I parked the car at about midnight, I waited till 5 PM the next day, and the car started right up on the first try, after parking it again and trying to start it, it wouldn't start again! I've tried the flooded engine procedure (hold the throttle all the way down and start the car) that made trying to start it worse, it wouldn't even want to sputter to life for a second after that.

The ECU is giving me code 55... so the ECU sees nothing wrong... I believe I have good enough Fuel Pressure ( i dont have a pressure tester with me). Im not sure if im getting spark (all I have with me right now is a 10MM and a 12MM wrench, which dont remove the coilpack bolts too easily. And I don't have a multimeter with me either.

I don't know if this is connected to the problem, but my gas gauge has been going crazy, when I have 1/4 of a tank left, the gauge goes way lower than it should be going(almost to the bottom of the E sometimes) And when I see this, im on a flat surface, so it's not the fuel shifting in the tank.

All of this is very confusing!

Anyone have any ideas?

Hey Midwest. I had a similar problem. Your cylinders are starting to fire so its not spark issues. I cleaned my fuel injectors and that fixed everything. It will increase your pressure and it should also fix your gauge issues. Mine still seems to decrease at odd intervals but I am still getting the same millage so its not a big issue. Let me know if this works.

I put some BG injector cleaner(the good stuff) in my tank about 5,000 miles ago. What type of cleaner did you use? I can buy a can of fuel-injector concentrate, but then I will need the device that puts it in the fuel rail at the right pressure.

I used STP super concentrate. Its just an add to gas product. It was fairly easy and cheap

I tried the fuel injector cleaner, but that didnt work. The car will crank, but wont turn over. It seems to like to start in warmer weather? Could this be because of the pressure in the fuel tank getting higher as the weather gets warmer?

Anyone have any other ideas???

Could the injectors be going out?

Fuel Pump? Fuel Pump Control Module?

I am stuck about 20 miles from my house.

Is the procedure for a flooded engine to hold the pedal down 1/4 of the way and keep trying to start it for 60 seconds? Thats what an i've heard from an infiniti dealer. Is this correct?

The flood procedure is to Floor the gas pedal while cranking.

Im gunna check the plugs today. I think that might be a cause of my problems, if not im not sure what's causing the problem.

I checked the plugs, they were a little dirty, but nothing that wouldnt make it start... Still getting new plugs anyways.

After that, I cleaned out my trunk and checked to see if i could hear the fuel pump, I didnt hear anything at all. I checked voltage across the blue and yellow wires, and it shows 11.86 V when I have the key in the on position for a few seconds?

Is this voltage too low? I heard that alot of Q45's have a problem with the fuel pump control module going out, would the J have the same problem??

Does anyone know how much fuel pumps for the J's usually run? If they are too much I was just thinking about replacing it with a Walboro 255 LPH Pump, they are only $99, and fairly universal. I've put quite a few in 240's, and they all worked great.
