It seems everytime I turn around, I have to do something to my car. A few days ago, I heard a strange knocking come from the engine and had one of my mechanic friends listen to it to confirm what I thought it was. Timing chain (expect a post on that later). So now, I'm dropping $200 on a chain kit (complete overhaul of the timing assembly, and only $50 more than what the dealership wanted for just the chain and tensioner).

I pulled the engine out yesterday and took a look at the clutch to see how it was doing. It wasn't on the rivets, but it was damned close. Also burnt the flywheel. Now I need to get a clutch. An OE clutch and pressure plate would run me almost the cost of an Exedy Stage 1 clutch, so guess what I decided to shoot for. Good job bart, now you spent yet another $240. The only proplem is that shipment may take 7 business days (it would have been 5 with the OE clutch) and I was hoping to be driving the car on Thursday.

To top it off, my car insurance is due on the 8th, my cell phone bill was already due, and my car payment is due on the 10th. I wonder if I can talk the bank into extending the payment period while the car's out of commission

not really sure about how much knowledge you have or even what motor you have, but the KA and SR are known to have mad 1337 timing chain rattle because of the upper guide.

Also, depending on what motor you have, (I am going to assume SR here) you can get an ACT unsprung 6-puck and pair it to a stock pressure plate (total cost of about 160 or so) I have been running this setup for over a year now, and about 12k miles of HARD driving, and have had no issues with it. Also be sure to replace the pilot bushing while you are in there.

Hmm..since i've already pulled the motor and physically seen the chain where it's stretched, i'm gonna go with the "i was right when i heard the strange noise my car has never made before". Also, my pressure plate is fubar too, so your setup would't have worked for me, even if I had known about it yesterday.

stock replacement pressure plate is what I meant.

only a clownshoe would reuse a used pressure plate
