Hey everyone! New to the forum here! My name is Arturo but most people call me Chris (easier to pronounce i guess?). Anyhow, im from Houston,Texas born and raised here. This is my first G35 and this is the best car i have ever owned. However, im having some problems. So i was thinking maybe one you guys could help me out. Im having issues with the "G" when im on a bumpy road or freeway. My car seems to sway a little when i hit a bump. I have recently bought new tires and got it aligned but it still sways. It feels like the rear fishtails a bit. Could this be because i have the sport tuned suspension package or could it be i need new shocks/struts? Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi Chris,

Welcome to NICO. Glad to have you aboard.

My experience with the G is that the front wheels like to track irregularities in the road. Your choice in tires will make this more/less prominent.

The sports tuned suspension should actually keep you planted on the ground, not swaying around like a fish out of water.

How many miles on your G? Are we talking minor irregularities in the road or major bumps and potholes?

I have 44,000 miles on it and yes minor things cause it to fishtail a bit. For instance, a small bump in the road will cause it to do so. Its not much of an issue on big potholes bc i know to slow down when i come across something like that. Also, on a bumpy road it literally feels like im driving a 4X4 and it fish tails big time when im on it going around 40-45.

That concerns me. It could be worn bushings, but that's not typical at your mileage.

I'd take it to the dealer and have them look at it.

Sporty cars tend to like to tramline more than others. So some is normal. But if the rear is actually shifting directions, its likely not. It's usually the fronts that like to track with the rears just following along.

It sounds like a rear bumpsteer issue. Do you know if this car was in any accidents before? This type of problem can be easily missed by an alignment if the proper static alignment settings can be obtained. But if a toe control rod is bent or its position is wrong, the wheel could be experiencing excess toe in or out causing the rear end to want to shift to one side or the other. Does it only want to go in one direction when it does this?

Did you have this issue before you put the new tires on? Also check and make sure your tires are not over pressure as well.

That was the first thing I thought about---was the car in an accident at some point? Where did the owner buy the car---from a dealer or from a direct owner. with 44,000 miles, I beleive the car is still under warranty if it is less than 4 years old.

I have a sports tuned suspension and I don't feel the stuff he is talking about. I really doubt the struts are faulty. Perhaps, toe control rods or worn bushings. A worn strut will not cause fishtailing, at least not at 44,000 miles. I mean struts are so good these days, they can last as much as 200,000 miles.

Could it be that the car was in an accident and thus, the premature wearing of the bushings and offset nature of the toe rods?Just a thought.

No i didnt have this issue with my old tires and when i purchased the car from the dealer it ran perfectly fine. Also, the car was never in a wreck. When my rear sways it doesnt want to go in one direction but the ride now is very unusual and very uncomfortable. I appreciate the thoughts guys! thanks!

What tires did you get? Also you could always upgrade to sway bars if "swaying" is your problem
