Yup, Im happy. I had an idling problem (cleaned AIV and IAA) and it wouldnt go away, plus the car didnt run as well as I would have liked. So first thing I changed today was the fuel filter w/ an OEM 300zx unit. Drove it and...amazing!! The car runs sooo much better top end especially, but acceleration is much smoother. Highly recommended even if you dont plan to go turbo.

Secondly I switched the oil to Mobil 1 Synthetic for higher mileage applications. (I have 92k miles) But first I drained the oil, changed to a cheapo filter, put in 2 quarts of walmart brand 10w30 ($.64/quart) plus a quart of ATF (walmart brand also, very cheap) and some Gunk engine flush. Idled it for about 10 minutes and raced it a few times to 2000rpm. Then I drained it and replaced the filter with a good one and 4 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic for higher mileage engines. CAR RUNS FANTASTIC!!! WOW!! no doubt this is the best behind amsoil. For those of you who dont know, the gunk cleans the motor pretty well and ATF is like motor detergent. ATF is 5w30 effectively I believe, but you cant drive w/ it in, just idle/race it a few times. This cleared all deposits out of the engine, you could tell from the color of the oil that came out after only 10 minutes!! This is a must, I also re-tested compression to make sure it clear and detrimental deposits or anything and my compression is still at 176-178 all 4 cylinders.

FInally I cleaned out the throttle body w/ carb cleaner, it was shiny on the inside again. This fixed my problem of the throttle sticking at times.

All in all I think my car enjoyed today very much. I highly recommend all of what I did.

It would if the filter you pulled out was partially blocked. So would a standard filter.

True.

I just took it as he changed his fuel filter, which helped, and it was the 300Z filter. I didn't take it as he was trying to imply a performance upgrade over a stock but new replacement. Does that make any sense at all? It WAS kind of a rough night last night...

Good stuff. I'm in the process of doing a bit of a tune-up on my '96 as well. I put in a new air filter (temporary until I get a K&N) and put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. This week it will also get new spark plugs and possibly wires. I'm going to check out the condition of the fuel filter and differential fluid as well.

The oil in my car is currently already synthetic and still has about 1000 miles before it's due for a change, but I too am planning to run a quick flush through just for good measure when I change it, and use Mobil 1 10w30 synthetic for higher mileage.

Today mine got a full waxing, rainxing, and wheel cleaning. I think my car was happy today as well. :D
