Went X-mas shopping on the 20th and now I need a new car. A 2002 Civic tried to turn left in front of me (we were headed towards each other), I had no where to go, made a hard right and my left rear quarter panel clipped her front bumper, then I hit a curb that was about 10 inches high, doing about 60 km/h. I was not at fault, a police officer who was behind me saw the whole thing. I hit the curb at an angle and took out the nose cone, bent the frame, bent the suspension, L/F fender, hood and my fan was hittng my rad. The car was resting flat on the left front fender even though it still had a wheel on it (flat tire of course). I really liked my car . It was (is) a light green '91 240sx SE fastback, auto with limited slip diff. & super HICAS. Once the claim is settled I'll need to buy a new car. I'm thinking 91 to 94 with a 5 speed, I kinda like the look of the coupe, any suggestions? Friends are no help all they say is get something different and suggest honda, acura, saturn etc..

p.s. the Civic drove home, my 240 had to be dollied so the tow truck could haul it:(

It is a shame that you got taken out by the civic. Did you know statistically women drivers are worse then men? (no offense to our 240 women drivers)

For some odd reason I'm not really all that mad at the other driver. Don't get me wrong, I am upset my car is wrecked, but I'm not really pissed at the chick in the civic at all. Tuesday I get my stuff out of it (and take some pics), Friday is when the estimate gets done.

Why are you not mad at her? Its her fault you had to swerve. She caused the accident...Don't get me wrong its good that you're a calm person, but she f**ked up your car.

Get another 240 (you said yourself you liked it)....pull the LSD out of your wrecked car man, too precious to let go to the junker.

If they write off the car I don't think I can get any parts off of it, unless I buy it back after the claim is settled. Where I live there is only 1 insurance company and it is government run, not sure what the rules are for taking parts off, I will check into it though. Looking around this forum site everyone seems to say lsd's are rare. At least half the 240's around here seem to have them, although the cars seem to be rare at salvage yards. ( i really need to be less wordy, still new to forums sorry). I considered getting 300zx tt or non turbo but the maint. costs scare me. By the way I also have a '71 240z that is a work in progress (actulally on hold for the last 5 years not enough cash). Also thanks for the offers on cars, but I'm going to look locally before looking outside the country

Got an estimate done today. The total damage is $10,028.00. The car is a write off, now all that is left is to determine it's value and settle.

What's the point of getting mad at the driver who hits him? There is nothing he can do. It's not like someone broke his leg or something, it's just a car. You can get it replace, but can't with Human, so let it go, dammn. BTW, is the driver hot? hehe

All '94s are auto and drop tops.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate turn of events. Thank God you're ok (at least it sounds that way). It wasn't your fault, so you'll be able to replace the car! Good luck shoppin'!

Nick.

Thanks for the support. I find out the next week what they determine the its value at. As far as the LSD, I asked at the Nissan dealer they said they sell for $600-$800 new (canadian). Also I would like to point out that not all 240's in Canada have LSD's, the only ones I have seen that have it are the ones with the HICAS system, a rear wheel steering option that also included 205/60 R 15 tires instead of 196/60 R 15 and the LSD.

Why should you be mad? It was an ACCIDENT. Some people take accidents way too personally. Attitude is everything. And trust me. I hear it all. I am a claims adjuster and work auto liability claims. Being mad at the other driver doesn't accomplish anything. I mean really...would you want someone mad at you screaming in your face if you hit them when you made an honest mistake? A HUMAN mistake?

I do know someone who used to work for that company. He and I have discussed differences in how claims are handled in the states and Canada. He never mentioned that you could not keep the salvage. In the states, the owner can retain the salvage, but the settlement will be deducted by the value of the salvage. In most cases, you will be allowed to take parts off provided it does not take away any value from the salvage or you put the stock part back on. If any part of your settlement included value added by the part you are taking off, that would be deducted as well. Best thing to do would be to ask yur adjuster.

It's winter here and the car is covered road grime. The snow that was on the car was melting and the dirt was getting wet, that's why it looks black. I also had my snow tires and steel rims on (alloys in the summer). The photo was taken when the estimate was being done. They stopped at $10,028 and said there was no point to keep going because of the age of the car it's a total loss (left frame rail is bent, right rail may be also).

So today I took out my stereo equipment from my car, this was probably the last time I will see it :( I got an offer yesterday from the insurance company, now I have to decide if I'll accept it or not. Still looking for a car, around here 240SX's seem to over priced. Oh well, I'll see what happens.

I settled my claim last Thursday. I got $7200 for the car, $300 for loss of use and a get a little more back for tax when I buy a new car. The damage on the car is worse than it looks in the photo. It has damage on the left rear 1/4 panel where it hit the other car and front end damage from a curb. The frame is bent, so there is just over $10,000 in damage. I'm still looking for a new car (not much for sale these days). I'am considering buying a 2003 Sentra SE-R Spec-V, but not really sure at this point. I do like rear wheel drive cars though. I still have a '71 240Z that needs to be restored when it's done (are they ever really "done"), I can use it to get my rear wheel drive 'fix'. I guess I'll wait and see what happens over the next few weeks. I'm not really stuck without a vehicle I've been using one of my parents so I don't need to rush into anything.

Before buying a Spec V, PLEASE do yourself a favor and seek out Torry on here, he is one of the Moderators, and has had some bad luck with his, as well as several others. Also look into b15sentra.net to see what owners there think.

I did some research and I am really thinking of making the switch to fwd and going with a 2003 Sentra Spec V (my first 2 cars were rwd). Unless of course anyone can convince me otherwise. I really liked my to 240SX, but I'm thinking it's time to try something new. I have always been, always will be a Nissan fan. So when I do buy a replacement car, you guessed it, it's going to be a Nissan.
