Recently, within the past 2 or 3 weeks my car has been going through spotty times of running like ballz. I noticed that it started running richer than usual, and now the a/f gauge almost never comes off of Rich. It happens almost once a day, sometimes lasts longer than others. If idled for more than 2 or 3 minutes, it sometimes blows a puff of smoke upon accelerating, then clears up. The idle becomes shaky, ranging from about 100rmp to 1400rmps and jumps up and down. Also, it seems like when it is happening, the turbo will spool up louder than normal under normal acceleration. I'm thinking it may be a sensor, like MAF. I have basically a stock SR20DET Redtop, Walbro 155lph, and FMIC. I'm pretty sure I don't have any vacuum leaks, but have not yet tested. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

You should check stuff out first. Did you change something before it happened? Is your car not tuned right? That info would help.

Nothing has been changed recently. The most recent thing I have done was change the plugs, fuel filter and wires but that was in the beginning of the summer. The car is tuned pretty good to my knoledge, it has been running great for 2 years, now this just all of a sudden started happening.

So if I unplug the MAF when it's running bad, and it fixes the idle and such, is that the problem?? Thanks

you can't drive with the maf unplugged. the car goes into limp mode and drives like total dirt. I would recommend checking your timing, the IACV, and cleaning out the MAF.

Yeah, I'm going to start looking more into it this week after I start feeling a little better, damn cold weather. Just looking for some points to get started with, I hope its just something pretty simple.

Try recirculating that HKS BOV. I recently did that and I have alleviated my similiar issues that you are having.

Jay said check the TPS. Maybe someone on here knows the link to the proper way to probe the TPS and read the correct volteges. I think he said something like 0.5 volts with the key on at idle and 4 volts at full throttle. Someone want to post the link on exactly which wire to probe and such? Thanks.
