My car got KEYED!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Just my luck, some jerk keyed my EX from the rear passenger door to the rearview mirrors...I'm so pissed.

Anyway, has anyone had any experience with doing body work on their EX35? My local dealer outsources their bodywork to a third party shop, will they be able to refinish the Scratch Shield paint properly?

That sux. WTF is wrong with people?

While I do not have an answer to your question you should be OK by getting the dealership to be responsible for issues if you have the service done through them.

I have a thread started on bodywork with the EX.

FIRST how deep is the scratch? Can you feel the scratch with your fingernail? I'd probably let it go for a week or two and see if the "scratch guard" paint starts to do it's thing or not. Deep scratches it will not repair (if you are seeing the primer it probably wont fix it) but minor scratches it SHOULD fill in.

There is actually a TSB out for paint repairs on the EX due to the scratchguard paint. I'd find that and check with the body shop to make sure they use those particular supplies if you pick to have it fixed.

From my limited findings odds are you WONT be able to have the scratchsheild reapplied. Infiniti more or less recommends HIGH quality paint being reapplied with a good scratch resistant clear coat. Going off memory there was only one description I read that appeared to actually reapply some form of the scratchsheild clear coat. The other "approved" brands just had very high quality clear coat.

The scratch is definitely deep, it's through the paint.

It's a bit dissapointing to hear that the Scratch Shield can't be re-applied. Then the next question is should I even bother to take it back to the dealer? Or just a good body shop should be okay as well?

I read that it was only "good" for approximately 3 years before it lost it's ability to heal. So in the grand scheme of things it's not REALLY that big of a deal.

I'd look at that TSB that's out on the repair procedures and find a local body shop that uses one of the brands and methods mentioned. That's what I plan on doing.
