Stopped at the corner post office on the way into work...

Left my car for 10 seconds to drop two letters in the mailbox and when I came back, a guy driving a delivery truck had backed into the Q. I now have a 1 ft horizontal dent in my hood just above the badge aka Elvis belt buckle. Nothing that can't be fixed. The hood still opens and closes fine.

The truck is a Wachovia bank fleet vehicle and we both got citations. Me for being parked improperly and him for improper backing. The thing is, I probably would have settled with the guy but he hops on the phone and calls the cops. Oh well.....

Pics to come... my camera batteries died.

This sucks!

Well, at least he will pay for it and yours is a non-moving violation.

Well I don't know Maxnix. I wasn't in the car, but I was parked illegally behind him.... I'm sure his (Wachovia Bank's) insurance will seize that as an opportunity to try and deny my claim or give me a hard time on it. There was a wide enough berth behind him and the front of my car so he should have checked. The truck is one of those package vans which has a wider back with drop down lift gate and Ford E-350 Van-Cab with extended side mirrors.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I'm pretty sure Maxnix is right. Like he said, since your's is a non-moving violation, it doesn't excuse the van driver from hitting your car. Moving violation trumps your non-moving violation, maybe? :-)

At least in SC, there are very, very, few excuses (if any?) that would allow someone to shirk responsibility for backing into a non-moving object. Was the truck also illegally parked?

Rest assured, the driver of the truck will have some job related consequences as well. Most commercial drivers are trained to avoid backing at all costs. My wife works for Time Warner cable, and they're pretty strict on backing accidents. That's why those vans are always parked in the street...

It's time to mock-up a carbon fiber hood for the Q!

Or, you could just get one of those bolt-on grills on all the VIP cars!

I am just glad there wasn't a baby stroller between your car and that truck.

You know Jeff... you are so right man... There is always a bright side to things....I have two daugthers and that's a scary thought. Who knows, I might have been in front of my car too. The damage is really not that bad(dent pull, a little putty and paint the hood) and yes, I was outside the car so my citation will be parking while his will be backing improperly. This is my first fender-bender with the Q since ownership.

Thanks for all the support...you guys are the shiznit.

Don't I know it... years ago, I worked as a UPS driver in Soho (garment district) of lower Manhattan, World Trade Center, etc. We were taught that even if there was room behind us to back up, you first move forward no matter what then back up. If any of you are familiar with the area...Mott, Mulberry Streets etc, these are narrow cobblestoned streets made for horse-n-buggy use. Driving a 26ft International so loaded down (xmas season) that I had my hand-truck in the cab, I really had to be careful as many times I would ease down the streets with inches to spare on either side.... This guy was driving a bread-van in comparison.... He definately wouldn't survive those streets.

All in all though...I recognize the human element and sympathize with him... the bastard!!!

Crap Man!! Bad way to start a week Hope you get it cleaned up real well, thats a damn shame.

Dont feel bad though, it wasnt really your fault. You could be like me and run into the pole at the drive thru and put a nice flat edge to your rear wheel well
