My car got attacked by a crackhead!

Okay, I don't know if he was a crackhead but here's the story:

I'm driving home from work at about 20 after midnight. I'm doing 55 on a 2 lane country highway and there are no other cars in sight. Because it's a country highway I'm always keeping an eye out for deer and other animals. Imagine my surprise when I see some half naked shoeless dude running toward my car in my lane waving some sort of club or knife or something over his head. So to avoid hitting him I slam on my brakes and almost come to a stop about 10 feet away. I expect him to slow down thinking he might be having some sort of emergency or something but no, he keeps on sprinting at my car and he's got his mouth open so I assume he's yelling or something (music was up so I don't know) and he's waving that thing he's got over his head. At this point I realize the dude is either stoned, crazy or both, so I stomp it and swerve around him and take off. As I'm taking off all I hear is an awful "BANG"! Whatever he had in his hand, he hit my car with it on my way by. There's a pretty nasty ding and a scratch in my passenger side door now, I'll post pics after it's light out but... my poor car...

Anyway, I called the cops and they said they'd send someone out... hopefully they got someone there before one of the oncoming cars I passed later had to deal with the guy.

Just thought I'd share my little adventure with everyone, doesn't seem like something that normally happens. Especially considering the guy was running down a part of the road that's miles from anything.

wonder how much it'll cost to fix... I was hoping it would be the kind of dent you can suck out but it looks like that won't work. Ugh... why do people have to smoke crack?? Or meth??

wow. tht sux. i would of been pissed. I would have thrown it in reverse and ran over his a** lol. sry to hear bout tht bro. there are some crazy ppl in this world.

Dang... thats crazy. That is probably going to cost a pretty penny to fix though, if it is as deep as it looks in the picture (looks like it almost went through the sheet metal). Since the damage is right on the crease on the panel, it makes it much harder to fix, and next to impossible to get it looking perfect unless the work is done by a very skilled body man. The best way to fix it might be to put a new door skin on, since that would probably cost less labor-wise; materials cost would be about the same with the addition of the cost of the new panel skin. What ever you do, make sure that it is done at a reputable shop with people that know what they are doing, or else it will never look right.

Yeah, I'm going in this afternoon to file a police report and if they caught the guy he's gonna pay for it. I fully intend to press charges... At first I tried to find the humor in it but the more I think about it the more pissed off I get.

You're probably right... it's only a $250 deductable and they're calling it a comprehensive claim for vandalism so it shouldn't affect my rates, I'm not all that concerned about it.

I'm just trying to get my head around what some crazy guy with a pipe was doing out in the middle of nowhere. That and they had that part of the road blocked off this afternoon while I was going to work, makes me wonder if it wasn't someone out to commit suicide by car and maybe after I went by he was successful. Gonna find out all I can when the officer calls me back this evening.

Unfortunately youtube doesn't work for me while I'm at work so I can't see if it's the same guy. It wouldn't surprise me if it was.

After talking to the Sheriff I don't think that was him lol. Apparently the guy they arrested (after using mace and a bean bag gun and STILL needing 4 cops to take him down) told them he was an ex-marine back from Iraq and suffering from PTSD. The cops said he was on PCP. So they got the guy for assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and numerous assault and vandalism charges.

If he really is an ex-Marine I feel nothing but sorry for the guy. He probably wouldn't have been out there smoking that stuff if he had gotten the treatment he needed before being separated. That's just my own personal opinion though... I don't want to make any waves with an overly-political statment.

Positive note, he cracked my passenger side mirror as well so I'm going to try to upgrade to the heated blinker mirrors.

Honestly I dont care if that guy is an ex marine. If someone acts like that they deserve no special treatment. I understand it is sad IF he suffers from Post Dramatic Stress Disorder but that might not be the case though. He just needs to be shot that hella f***ed up. What if that person had a kid in the car who could have gotten injured or how f***ed up that person is now because of that happening to him her for no reason. Eh anyway i get heated over this sh*t

Yeah, I think since they're able to order the mirror parts seperate they just put a new shell on it instead of replacing the whole thing. I don't think the repairs were enough to include 2 new 3.5 mirrors. It only cost $550 total so the guy gets off with a misdemeanor. I don't know if I spelled that right. I do know he's got some felony charges too though, especially with what he did with the cops and their cars. Oh well... I just want my car back now... they gave me a full size Dodge Ram rental and I really don't feel like paying for all that gas. I drive 32 miles one way to work.
