Like i said, when i got my sr20 the stock oil catch can had already been removed, there is oil residue (most likely from pcv and valve cover vent) in my fmic and all of the intercooler piping, my questions for you guys are:

1. Does this motor really need a catch can in the vent system?2. if i were to mount a new one, should it be located between the valve cover and the pcv (like the stock one) or between the valve cover and the intake piping.

thanks

zerothread?id=278685Check that out. It's debatable where the best place to put the can is.

This is the way I rerouted my catch can/separator.

It makes more sence to me that the stock method.

I have mine similar to the stock setup. I mounted the catch can in the far left corner and ran the hoses behind the valve cover. One line goes down to the block and the other goes to the T. Then you have the line from the T to the intake.

ya, it makes more sense to me as well. all that oil being thrown around under the valve cover just gets sucked up into the intake with the stock setup. but with the can rite before the intake, there is no chance that oil can get by.

after reading the article that hijacker posted a new idea just came to my attention. Why not just keep the setup i ave now and just vent the valve cover and pcv into the atmosphere insted if te manifold, thus solving all the oil problems.
