I took my Cold Air Intake out today, because I had doubts of it sucked up water during rain and when I take my car to wash it. What do you guys know. My Intake is sucking up water like crazy. In my long pipe that sits in the fender has dried up water markers all the way up it. My MAF sensor tubing has water marks half way up that black piece. I do a lot of driving from Atlanta to Rome which is like a 76 mile trip one way. When I am on the highway when it is raining I usually keep a 1 1/2 car minimum or a 3 car maximum distance on the road. This is traveling on the fast lane on I-75 at speeds of 70 - 85. Will the mist coming from the front car be possibly getting to the filter and soaking it, or could it be when I am at the car wash and I am using that pressure washer to wash my cash and the water getting in that way. Since I am having this problem do I need to get the AEM bypass valve. In my situation is it worst purchasing this mod. If not then I am going to remove the long portion of the tube and turn it into a short-ram. Then cut out a square of sheet metal and get that hole plugged up.

The Cold Air Intake has about 60,XXX miles on it.

do you have a real cai? mounted inside the fender or just a cone filter under the hood? if it's in the fender you should be alright if the filter is directed towards the ground, it might get a little wet but except for a little bit of mist shouldn't get into your engine. plus i heard that a little water vapor in the engine makes for a better, cleaner burn.

It takes a full 2 liters of water at one time sucked up into the throttle body to cause hydrolock, so unless you're planning on sticking your intake into a deep *** puddle and revving it up to suck up the water like a straw, don't worry about it!

Yeah I have a real CAI. I hope that little bit of vapor is helping me have a clean burn. I just hated to see the water marks in the inside of the tube. I guess if it will not hurt then I will keep running the CAI. It just seemed weird that a good bit of water had made it that far up into the tube. I also don't plan on taking my car into deep war anytime soon.

Just a question: What do you guys think about the AEM Bypass valve?

injen has a hydroshield sheath that repels water and lets air through the filter...i've got that and love it

Will the hydroshield fit on any any intake? I have the Aspec Racing Intake with a Apexi Filter. Would I still be able to attach the shield to it? I do not wanna order it and then not be able to use it.

Thanks for the Tip lightsout It seems like a really good product and something that I would not mind investing in.

Is there a lot of water in your motor oil?

I am really not sure. Cause when I change my oil I will open up t eh plug and go inside the house for about 20 mins. I never sit there and check it. Also when I drain the oil it goes in my oil catch and it is black and covered up on the top and i would have to pour the oil into a clear container to check. When I do my next oil change in about 1 or 2 weeks I will check it and see.

How would water make it into the oil. When it is going up the intake? Water making it to the oil is going to be something that i need to be taught. Never heard of it before.

i have no idea if it will fit...i'll research it. find your Filter online, and post the link here so we can all take a look at it.

here is the link for the hydroshield from Injen!!http://www.injenairintakes.com/maxima

this link below has different size hydro shields...if you can compare your apexi filter to the injen filters dimensions you should be able to pick out a filter that is just right for your application!
