Well heres the story,

My car had a flat battery and when i jumped it it kept starting then dieing (it couldnt maintain idle) after a while it finally idled but i could smell a electrical smell. When i drove it it came to normal temp then the temp gauge started flicking up and then a bit down and then up really fast to almost red only when under load. It also had lost tons of power and the auto box wasnt changing as it should. It has water and oil and is a reasonably fresh engine. Please help if you know whats going on. Thanks

Locate the cause of the smell. Sounds like your ecu is done.

Hey i already took the ecu out and it didnt smell like it was fried so i did the self diagnostic ecu check and it flashed code 55 which means all good. I tried real hard to find the origin of the smell but couldnt. But thanks anyway. Any other ideas?

did it ever actually boil over or anything? or did it just say it was getting hot? because when the electronics got fried in our old family stanza every gauge just started going crazy. so i mean if it never boiled over or anything i wouldn't worry about your engine, just check all your electronics as best you can (grounds, fuses and relays). usually if its a bad relay you can hear it buzzing like a mofo. i'd go ahead and replace your temp sensors too, just to rule that out, they're cheap and easy.

and actually it would be really easy to fry a relay by jump starting the car, since a lot more electricity is running through it than it was designed for.
