Ok, I'm working on my CA swap and i have followed the wiring diagrams for the SR swap exactly, except the knock sensor wiring. The engine runs/idles fine but I don't get a Check Engine light before i turn the car on. (the other lights work like oil pressure) Whats wires deal with this?

Thanks in advance

Run a new wire from the knock sensor to the computer! Make sure to use shielded wire to prevent interference. Go to a junkyard for spare plugs if not part of a harness.

So not having the knock sensor wired up could cause the check engine light not to light up? I was going to wire it up anyway but didn't think it would be the cause of this.

Just be sure and wire-up the knock sensor and stop worrying about a check engine light. Again, wire-up the knock sensor and forget about a check engine light. If you need to do diagnoses on your eccs, use the method specified in the FAQ or search, you can learn from searching.

I wired the knock sensor but i still get codes 21 Ignition signal circuit, 34 Detonation sensor circuit and 11 Crank angle sensor circuit. I soldered all the wires and used a lot of electrical tape and reset the ECU. Do i need to let the engine run so it can figure stuff out?

Now it idles at 600 instead of 800 rpm, and wont rev unless i go really easy on the throttle. I guess its my crank angle sensor? because its part of the ignition system causing the ignition issue? If so does anyone have a spare for sale, because i cant afford the new ones at the parts stores, I can rebuy half my swap with those prices.

Oh yea the sensor says mitsubishi on it.

Those things dont really go bad. Check the wires for continuity from the ecu. It sounds like there might be some wiring issues somewhere. Are you sure you wired the knock sensor to the proper pin on the ecu?

My check engine light has never once come on. I have grenaded two engines and torn up my CA a few more times, but slightly less catastrophically. Nothing. Just dont worry about it. The CEL on an OBD-0/1 car is pretty freaking useless anyway. "Oh knoez! Something is wrong somewhere maybe!"

Speaking of cantalopes, I discovered a vine growing in the creek by my apartment with not one, not two, but three tasty looking melons growing on it. Yay mexican workers! Ive got dibs on them for sure, and if anyone tries to stop me I will destroy them.

Use lasers if you do destroy them. The aftermath is soooo cool.

My buddy is an optical engineer (lasers) and he is working on a massive laser they could use to deflect meteors that would threaten the earth. The thing is meeeaaaan. Its nowhere near big enough yet, but it could put a hurting on some melon thiefs for sure.

It was running good before, but after i saw i had a code for the crank angle sensor I removed it to have a look. I had marks on it to keep timing. After that it started running weird. It sputters and shacks when I give it throttle. It would not start with the plug disconnected. Could it be possible i have it out of timing even though I lined it up with the marks originally?

Try moving it around and see if it doesnt smooth out. If that doesnt work let me know and we will go from there.

It helped a little when I advanced the timing but it's still not happy revving. I think I just have weak ignition. Iv been trying to read the FSM and i think the ECU is not getting enough power. So i guess ill be ripping my harness apart tomorrow.

Also check your ignitor to make sure it a) has proper power going to it, and b) is not breaking up under load. Sounds like it could well be a weak ignition.
