Hey everyone, I'm new to the 37 forums but not new to the G. I traded my 2005 G35 DG lease in for a 09 G37 in blue slate. I have been loving it ever since until I went and got the windows tinted and my tint guy showed me that the entire car is covered with little spots that are under the clear coat, this is only noticeable on a overcast day or when the car is in the shade. I took delivery at night and its not noticeable under lights, due to the way the metal reflects the light.

Took it to the dealer and they had me take it to their body shop, who told me that the whole car has been damaged with acid rain, including the windows, and the the entire car needs to be repainted.

I bought this car on Sep 30 09 and it has under 800 miles on it, the dealer seemed willing to help repair the problem but that was before they knew it needed to be fully re-painted, what do you think my options are? They are calling me back today and I would like to hear other experiences if anyone has had any?

Here are some pics, its hard to tell on a camera, since you need to focus up close and it tends to get blurry even on macro, but all the lighter dots you see are the discolored acid rain drop damage apparently.

I haven't had any problems with my '08...If you decide on a repaint at Infinti's expense, make sure they use the proper scratch guard paint. With it being painted in the US I'm sure the paint coat will be thicker and last longer against rock chips than the Japanese paint system so you should be ahead of the game.

See if Infiniti will also extend some of the warranty to ensure this paint job lasts.

Yeah I didn't have any problems with my 05 G35. Matter of fact i couldn't tell the difference from the factory paint and where I had it repainted 2.5 years later because of the idiot that keyed the entire back quarter panel.

My only thinking is the manufacture date is 10/08 so this car has been sitting at the dealers for over a year before I bought it. Still though, if you buy a new car you would expect it to be in new car condition.

I agree. The repaint might not be a bad idea tho. Hell, have them add some additional flake or pearl to the paint to make it different

Are you sure the damage is underneath the clear coat?

Acid rain will attack the clear coat first because that's what's exposed. To get to the color, it would have to eat all the way through the clear coat. If the damage really is underneath, it must have happened at the factory in Japan before the clear coat was applied.

Well to be honest no I am not sure, I'm just going with what the body shop told me.

Also I haven't heard from the dealer yet they were supposed to call me about 24 hours ago... Getting ready to call the Inifiniti consumer line and tell them...

What Kendahl said makes some sense. Have you tried machine polishing an area with a compound yet?I had something damage my OB sedan a couple years ago. There where spots evenly distributed all over the top surfaces (Hood, roof and trunk). You could only see them under certain natural light conditions and halogens.I had a friend (a detailer) rotary polish the clear coat. He said it took a couple of passes but everything came out beautiful.

I've had hard water/acid rain marks. I could feel them and got rid of them with Scratch X. Recently, I had some small light spots that showed up on the top and rear deck of my car. THey had a milky look to them. You could not feel them either.I tried everything including wet sanding. Nothing changed them.I even took it to a professional who tried to buff them out....nothing.I've noticed now that they are starting to fade - go away on their own slowly.

Don't know if yours will do this, just sharing my experience.

it all seems unusual to me. I haven't really noticed acid rain damage on anything so far.
