Ok guys I topped off my tank from being completely empty (low fuel light on) the car took 18.5 gallons of Sunoco 93 Premium - the only fuel she gets. That cost me $50!

She's empty again - right past the last line - and I've only gotten 285 miles out of the FULL TANK! Thats 15MPG - this is horrible. AC was OFF most of the time, and I'd say 50% of the driving was highway.

I looked into O2 sensors, they cost $71. How many does the J30 have...? I'm also going to do the stupid *** BG setup, hoping it'll help me gas mileage a bit, most likely won't do crap.

What else can I do? At this rate, mine as well be rocking a Cobra - they get around 15MPG! Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

Welcome to owning a J30 my man!

In all seriousness, its time to get your intake path cleaned... Clean the MAF, TB, IAC, and get those o2 sensors replaced, theres 2 of them..

Thanks for the help guys!

I know they're not GREAT on gas - but 15MPG is hurting in my opinion, not at $2.75 a gallon anyway! When things were $1.50/Gal I could deal - but this is crazy BS.

Ordering up the O2 sensors, and the BG kit here: http://store.yahoo.com/tri-max....html

I'll clean the intake path - like you mentioned... I'm hoping I can at least get 18-20 on the highway! Wishful thinking indeed...

Thanks again! How much does your Q45 get Wes?

Since I added acetone to my tank a while back ago, it seemed to not boost initial mileage but it did boost overall mileage, could also be that i got rid of my heavy wheels..

I just got 16mpg, normally its around 14 city, but i can still get 20-21 on the highway...

Ya, I didn't think of that... I put some 20" wheels on the whip - probably killing the gas mileage!

Factory wheels weigh about 30lbs or so with tires, and my cast 17/18 OZs weighed about 50..... huge difference in rotational weight, but i doubt that has any more than 1mpg.

I see... Well I'll toss in the O2 sensors, clean the intake path, and run all the BG products. Not sure what else I can do besides that...

I want to get the J30 running perfect, because when I sell it I don't want to screw someone over - I want them to get a car that works well.

Thanks for the help! Imagine gas mileage with the VG30DETT!

I use cruise whenver I'm traveling a consistent 35MPH+ ALWAYS

Driver: Can you give me a brief description of how you removed the emblems from the trunk without damaging them? I found someone with chrome emblems, and want to let them know how to remove without busting them up.

Thanks!

I used a flat head screwdriver from a jewellery kit (the type you use to tighten screws on eyeglasses) felt around, found a gap and gently pried. When I got a piece of the emblem up a bit, I pushed in aa piece of felt and worked on prying the rest of gently, slipping the piece of felt in as I pried as to not damage the paint. It takes patience to get them off.

Yea or you can use goo-gone. They should come off easy after that.

Thanks for the info about removing the emblems!

Yeah, I think my days as a J owner are limited... With the witner coming up, and snow on the ground soon - not sure if I wanna keep the J, and see it sit all winter.

I love the car, but my previous car was a 350HP 2.0L Talon, that ran mid-12s - thing was AWD, loud, fun to drive, etc.

I miss smoking stangs/trans ams on the highway and seeing that look on there face.

Looking into a Q45, and if I can't find one of those at a decent price, I'll probably buy another Talon, and start the modding again.

I just did the timing belt, tune up, put some 20s on it, and its been detailed, so if anyone is interested - $5K. Wheels cost be $2500 - they're Diablo 20s, and the car cost me $3000. Nevermind all the maitenence...

Still have to replace the starter and fix that problem before I let her go

I don't know man - the 210HP isn't enough for me, that's for sure!

I also live in New England, so any RWD vehicle is tough for me to own, and Infiniti lives for the RWD during the years which I can afford!

Why didn't they offer an AWD J30?! Or an AWD Q45 - even better?

Not sure what I'm going to do, but you have to understand going from a 2700LB 350HP 5 speed AWD car - to a 3500LB 210HP A/T is quite a change - so boring!

If I had a place to store a vehicle, things would be different, but I can only have one vehicle!

Not sure! You guys at NICO are great, remind me of the DSM community! Any ideas as to what I should do? Will a Q45 be alot faster than the J, and will I be able to make it through snow?

THANKS!

That is normal. The car is fine.. Actually you are getting pretty good mileage for a J. replace the sensors, but don't lose sleep over it if the issue does not improve. This car is poor on mileage and most J owners accept the fact..

RWD in winter is just fine just put on good tires!!

Like Blizzaks WS-50 or if still doing a lot of fast hiway driving Michelin Aplin PA2 .Both can be had from tire rack and will solve winter tire traction issues

indeed..... J30, Q45, whatever you have...... they suck in the winter, unless you have good tires, and if you have good tires, youll never be stranded... That LSD is key!!!

My Q has gotten close to getting stuck but never has gotten stuck, and ive only used all season tires for winter use.

A couple of things to do for mileage.Got a good set of spark plugs in there. The ignition system will fire just about any plug but it might not be very efficient. Then check and adjust your ignition timing. It shouldn't change much but it is taken off the camshaft position sensor so just a bit of difference in a camshaft belt and it can change it a few degrees. I've adjusted mine and I am running cheap normal spark plugs and am now getting 21-23 on the highway in fast driving 75-85 with the A/C going. Now if you have oversized tires on your car you are actually slowing down your speedometer/odometer so you are going more miles than you are registering. Measure the outsize tire circumference and compare it to the original sized weehels/tires. Compute the percentage difference and add that percentage to your current mileage (assuming your 20" tires are bigger than originals) You could be doing great. Another quick check is to to get an rpm reading at some speed-60-70-80 mph and compare it to someone else who has regular sized tires (like me) and compute the percentage difference that way. Remember math is fun!Wayne Hyde

Guys I need your help in the following areas:

1) Is there any plug better than OEM?

2) What is the ABSOLUTE BEST winter tire out there? I still need to be able to hit 80MPH, but won't go much faster than that. Sometimes your late for work though As soon as April hits - and the snow stops, the 20s will go back on, and the other tires will be taken off.

I DO NOT WANT TO GET STUCK!!!

RPM reading at 80MPH - I'll let you know what I comeup with!

Thanks...

Damn... Why is gas mileage so horrible with the VG30DE? Kind of a bummer!

I feel the same way.. Car is way too heavy..it was experimental for Nissan at the time.. Exhaust system is actually a flawed design..too much heat trapping and too restrictive. Everything has been throttled back compared to the 300Z which has the same engine.. HP, Torque etc. Be glad the 4100 V8 (VH41DE precursor) was not the option for the US car, which was optional on the Japanese J30 (J.Ferie/Leopard) That damn thing was only 13-15mpg...and with US gas..probably even more less, However, it brought out the true spirit of the J30..

I just did a 7k mile cross country trip..around 400 miles a tank on average..however I did 70-80mph constantly with A/C on and luggage in the boot.. Gas stations on the west coast sure got a couple of hundred greenbacks from me..lol..

Well..I'm used to my maxima. It gives me around 450+ MPT Then, again, it is a 5spd, lighter, nimble, faster.. It would have come in handy in the central divide when I hit hills and mountain roads last week...

The J30 is all original. Nothing modified, even on the original O2 sensor. One would think 400 is pretty good, I expected more.. I guess if I had gone 60mph and eased on the a/c setting, I could've done more.. Sometimes, leaving things alone is the best way..that is what I did and am going to do..
