I bought my car and it had busted center vents, recently i began replacing broken interior pieces. instead of tossing the center vent piece i decided to mess around with it. and here is what i have so far:

It is not finished as you can see, needs some bondo and some paint. my question is, the common size for guages is 2 1/16" or 52cm. i am only able to make 2" or 51cm holes for the guages. do you think the guages will fit or should i expand the holes some how? reason for me asking is i dont have any guages to try it with.

Get a gauge, just a cheap one for fitment, then just hand sand little by little until it fits well.

Getting there. Looks pretty good. Let's see it when you get paint on it.

Finished product i guess...

I used "wrinkle" paint hoping it would look OE like but it looks kinda bad. Its shiny in some places and flat black in other. the texture is not too bad. It scartches very easily like any other spray paint how do i prevent that?

My next experiment will be with the door vent, one gauge looking straight at the driver. Just like the rare silvia ones for the pass side. This time i will use fiberglass and make a piece that will jst screw on.

Try wheel paint. It's much tougher and less susceptible to little scrapes and scratches.

Any pictures of it in the car? I might want to do this in my hatch.
