My AC or Heat Doesn't Work?????

I have a 96 I30... When I press auto nothing happens. I set the fan on all levels still nothing. Help!

Sounds like a bad blower motor resistor. Can you hear the AC compressor kicking in?

Blower motor resistor fails to max-speed, so the fan would be running full-blast if that were the culprit. I'd suspect the blower motor itself if it's not coming on at all.

On this topic, mine spits out ice cold air at every single temperature setting except 90 degrees, then it goes full hot... The system knows the internal temp of the car, because fan speeds and blower position adjusts based on where I adjust the temperature (85 degrees, fan goes to bottom, 65degrees: fan shifts to mid, fan speeds up since car is hot). Ideas?

Could be a problem with the Expansion Valve. But your best bet is to hook up an AC Manifold Gauge to check the low and high side of the compressor. Also check the Air Dryer for air bubbles.

Make sure the engine is warm and running for at least 10 mins. Rev the engine to 1500RPM and check the outside air temp, cold air vent temo and hi/lo pressure. At ambient temp of @ 86F, cold air discharge should be @ 48F, low pressure at 21-26 PSI and high pressure at 169-225 PSI. Check the tubes going to the evaporator for signs of icing.

Manifold gauge may be rented/borrowed at car parts store.
