After searching the site for an answer, didnt find one, I figured I'd ask if anybody has ever had their A/C compressor all of a sudden not turn on. I went to Wendys to get some lunch and the A/C worked. I got back in the car and the A/C just would not turn on and has not turned on since late summer. I checked the fuses and they are all fine. The system had pleanty of coolant as well as the system was recharged 4 months before with no leaks. The A/C button still lights up blue when I press it, but the compressor does not turn on. Has anybody ever had this happen to them or have any ideas on what it could be? :help

Yeah, air blows out of the vents. When the A/C button is pressed, the compressor does not kick in and turn on.

jump the pressure switch on the reciever/dryer. then try to turn your a/c on. if it comes on either the pressure in your system is out of spec or the switch is out.[ most likely pressure problem]

Find your a/c relay under the hood. pull the relay out flip it upside down .. locate the numbers by the terminals inside match them to the socket terminals[remember your looking at the realy inverted] if its a 4 terminal relay jump terminal 3 to terminal 5. with the car running.if the compressor comes on this will tell you if the power supply and clutch magnet circuits are good. that leaves you with terminals 1 and 2 DO NOT JUMP THESE 2 TERMINALS. if you do you will fry the driver that turns on the relay. just check terminal 1 for power. if it has power you know that part of the circuit is good. at this point you have checked 3 major parts of the A/C circuit if all those checks came out ok now you know you have a control problem. not sure if the ecm grounds the A/C relay on your car or not.

It might be good to unplug the a/c compressor wire and turn the a/c on and check to make sure you have battery voltage at the connector. If you have voltage then the clutch is open and needs to be replaced. On some models the compressor wire wears through on the metal a/c line and not enough voltage goes to to compressor coil to engage it. Usually this causes a fuse to blow. On some models there is a brass heat sensor on the compressor that when it gets to hot it cuts the ground curcuit to the clutch. But I can't remember if the 93 altima has this on the compressor. The compressor usually comes back on when it cools, but I have mine jumped the sensor is open.
