Ok i have a 97 q45 that has been sitting unused for 2 years needing a power steering pump and radiator. I finally decided to clean it up and replace the pump and radiator but now it wont start. It will crank strong but not start. So i thought maybe it needs some gas and put a gallon of gas in the tank and it still wont start. I then saw that the fuel pump fuse was disconnected so i put it back in and it still wont start. Now i had to charge my battery again cause trying to start it drained the battery.

So can anybody point me to what i need to so to start up my 97 Q45 after 2 years of sitting in the parking lot? It was running great when i stopped using it. I just took the radiator and power steering pump out to put in my other q45. Now it has a new radiator and power steering pump but wont start now. Please help me , i love this Q.

To start with your gasoline is history, you need to drain that tank of gas and put in fresh gas. Also, how old was the oil in there and was it synth or dino? If the later that is toast too. Then your battery, you say that is cranks strong, did you charge the battery?

Well i did the basic non start procedure. and it came down to the fuel pump. The battery was strong and the crank is strong on the car. What i did first was to check fuel pressure and i was not getting anything coming out of the fuel regulator when i opened it. So then i bought a can of starter fluid and sprayed it in the air intake and then started the car and it started right up then stopped. So that told me that it is not getting any fuel. So i then changed the fuel pump relay and that was ok and i then took out the fuel pump. and when i hooked the pump up to power it was dead silent. So it looks like that fuel pump is no good. when connected to 12v power it should pump.

I did not empty the fuel tank ...i just assumed the car was out of gas so i put 3 gallons of premium fuel in the tank.
Im looking to buy a fuel pump now but i dont want to spend $250 for the factory Bosch pump. I will just buy a cheap aftermarket one and hope that it is not too noisy.

I wonder what would make the fuel pump go bad after just sitting in the car so long? The last time i drove that car it ran great. I also had a 91 q45 that was sitting in the parking lot for over a year but when i started that car it fired right up no problem. Maybe this car was in the sun for so long and the back was facing the sun. The top of the rear leather seats are cracked because of the sun exposure and the clear coat is peeling off the rear bumper. So it could be the heat that affected the fuel pump somehow.

Ok it certainly was the fuel pump. Today i went to the local junkyard and got lucky and found a 2000 Q45 in great shape. I was able to get the fuel pump off the car and install it in mine and the car started right up! :-). I changed the oil and cleaned it up and took it out for a drive and it is running great! These FY33 Q45 are great cars! After 2 years sitting in the sun and you can get them running again relatively easily.
