whats up! we had someone asking this same question a while back and it was decided that it would probably be do-able, but maybe more trouble and money than its worth when there are cheap fwd sr20de's to be swapped and turbo'ed.

dont let that ruin your aspirations though! if someone's done it, chances are someone on Nico has seen it. check out the search feature and our sentra forums for more details.

good luck and welcome to Nico!

pretty interesting. i wonder how it would have gone if it were a person with limited resources performing the build rather than a magazine with sponsor hookups...

also, if they had started with the sr, would they have been making more reliable power for what they spent than 226 at the crank? i would have to think so, but im not an sr guy, nor am i a fwd nissan owner. maybe someone with experience can offer some advice?

It is definitely more expensive per hp to turbo a GA than to swap an SR. A Bluebird SR20DET can be had for ~$1000 and swapped in by yourself without too many headaches.

Take a look at the sticky in the Sentra/200SX section to see all of your options, then hit up the people at Soko Motors (soko.com) for the most reliable source of FWD SRs.

A turbo GA is a novelty, but definitely not the most effective way of adding power.

It has been done before... Over on nissanforums there is one of the guys there that autocrosses his turbo ga16de... IIRC, he is making a little over 250whp. There is NO WAY, you can swap in the sr20det cheaper than turboing the ga16de. It has been covered before - and on top of the $1500 sr20det "swap", you will have to spend another $1500(bare minimum) in misc. related parts to convert from the ga to an sr. And that isn't even counting the upgrades you should do for the det in a b14, nor the minor things you should do on the sr20det before installing (tune up, all new seals, water pump, belts, etc). The normal se-r b14 transmissions are known to only take around 250whp before certain death occurs(all though you can bump that number up by an additional 150hp or so with mods - $250). Anyways - just my opinion on the matter. For more info on ga16de turbo stuff check out posts made by "wes" at nicoclub.com Lots of ga16de(t) info there.

Edit... it really is bs changing my links to information for people. the above site should be nissanforums dot com ...not nicoclub.com like it changed it to.

Entirely incorrect. A good-condition SR20DET can be had for about $1k, and the conversion parts listed in the sticky at the top can be had out of a junkyard for well under $1500 as well.

Turboing a GA would require a tune up and the miscellaneous extras to make it work right (exhaust, ECU, etc) just like an SR, so those costs are a given either way.

We have a mod here with 278whp on a B13 transmission, a B14 could handle that much as well. Regardless, a DET swapped in without bumping up the boost isn't going to have 250whp anyway, and a few PSI bump is going to put it at the limit. FWD cars become a handful around that point anyway, so generally people stop between 220 and 250.

A turbo GA is cool and all, but unless your goal is to be "different," there's no point.
