I recently purchased a 1994 Q45 and have made several repairs trying to get in good running condition. I was finally able to make the necessary repairs to get the check engine light to turn off by replacing bad injectors, replaced mass air flow sensor, both O2 sensors, fuel pump, oil change, temp sensor. The car started running but not idling right. Now it seems as the car is flooding but cant see what the cause may be.

The car is not running and when it does start it will not stay running and will shut off and will not restart again for upto 10 hours later. Which is believed to be due to the spark plugs needing to dry before the car will start again.

I will like this car but running out of ideas and money, please help with any advise possible.

Running out of money with a recently purchased 17 year old Q45 is a recipe for disaster! Flooding could be caused by leaking injector/0 ring, especially since you mentioned they were recently replaced......must fix at once, as each time you start engine, you run the risk of hydrolocking and destroying the entire motor. This has happened to several Q owners in the past, even Texans with 10 gallon hats.

That code is probably just a "running rich" code. You're way beyond that... Remember that the OBDI ECU is fairly dumb by today's standards.

I would pull the rails and pressurize them (turn the key on but don't start - just let the fuel pump prime) and see if you have a leak. You can hydrolock the engine if a lower o-ring leak is bad enough, so you want to figure this out soon.

Thanks for your help, we found leaking O- rings on a couple of injectors and believe that to be the cause of the flooding. So after 3 1/2 days of tearing the motor apart and getting started on replacing parts, I should have the car put back together by this weekend and God willing my car will be up and running by early next week.

Well we replaced all the injectors and O rings but the car still seems to be flooding. the only way to get it started now is to start it with the gas pedal all the way down to the floor like if it was flooded still.

any ideas???? :(

The car is still flooding when trying to start the car. I have tried several times to start the car while my foot is pressed all the way down on the gas. Once started the car runs great, very smooth. I went to put gas and came back home and then I noticed alot of white smoke coming from my tail pipe. Please Help with any and all suggestions possible, not sure where to go from here.

Did you pressurize the rails with them off of the car to check for leaks? How did you lubricate the o-rings before installation?

Are the lines installed correctly?

Installing them backwards may cause this.

If not try disconnecting the ignition system and pulling all the plugs. Crank it over and watch for one cylinder to shoot much more fuel than the others. That is assuming you have an issue in with an injector.

Do you have any idea what your fuel pressure is?

I have not had time to work on the car for the last week and a half, my dad hurt his back pulling the motor out and he is the one working on the car with me. Hopefully we will get back to work this week. I will surely try all your suggestions. I need my car back ASAP. I will keep you posted.

thanks again,

The lower o-ring on the fuel injectors go bad with age and start leaking through. You can do a fuel pressure bleed down test to verify.
