This is my Z project/restoration. She does not start and I cant figure out why. I joined this site hoping that I can get a lot of help from fellow Z fans This will be my first real project. What the three pics does not show is that the interior is jutted, The headlights, turn signals, exterior lights, interior lights, and power windows does not work even though the fuses and relays are good.I want to make this car into a drift car but nothing happens without it starting and the electrical components working. I have pulled every fuse and relay and replaced them one by one. The only other thing I could think it could be is the diodes are bad but I cant find them. So if you guys have any ideas what to check then I am open to suggestions.

Whats with all the cut up spagetti wiring on the left side of the intake manifold. If i were you i think id start by picking up a multi meter and seeing if you even get power to the coil/ starter when the key is on/ start position..

Im in the process of checking volts all over the place. I discovered like six fuses blown. i replace them all and now the fuel pump is not coming on. I checked the pump relay and discover that there is no power going to the relay at all. I am familiar with the basics of auto electricity, but what i cant figure out is if there both the fuses AND relays are good, why would there not be juice flowing.

first thing si to check the fusible links (those wire thigns bear the battery) next I'd check the neutral saftey swithc and the associated relay, then I'd look at the ignition switch

neatral saftey swithc is a switch located above the clutch pedal, it cuts power to the starter unless the clutch pedal is depressed, most modern cars since the late 70's have had this

and there is a relay tied in thats located in the relay box ont he passanger side fender

Does the pump prime when you turn the key to "on"? If not, then something is definitely wrong. The pump in my 87 and 84 prime without the clutch depressed, so I'll go out on a limb and say that it doesn't have anything to do with the neutral safety switch. It's probably something worth checking, but not until you have the pump working.

ok cool, well I have discovered something else....my rear body is missing, the one by the back door switch. Now, i understand that without a ground, most electrical things wont work. I need to know how can I find this missing body ground or how to invent one.

if you are concerened about grounding have a look at the battery cables, are they in good condition? nto cracked or some hack job replacement end applied over stock corroded wires? the ground wire should be bolted to the firewall near the battery, and then to the engine and trans at one fo the trans mounting bolts, there are a few wires grounded to the side of the intake lenum, these groudn the ecu, there si also a chassis ground near the taill lights and one up front near the lh headlightIIRC these are for the lighting circuits

Get a good wiring diagram. You are not going to be able to figure anything out chasing blind clues. With a good diagram you can chase the wire going to the relay that isnt giving any power...

I tried something a little different today. I took both headlights apart and wired them directly to the battery to see if they blown or not. They both worked so I wired the fuel pump directly to the battery and it kicked on like a champ. Damn!!!!! So I figure that i am going to have to rewire the entire car so my headlights, taillights, interior lights, turn signals, and power windows can work. Oh and by me "hotwiring" the fuel pump, I finally got the car started for the first time after owning it for a month.
