yes as you see my corolla needs a new trnasplant, so im thinkin what better swap to do than the ka24. getting it real cheap less than 6hundered dollars, and the motor has low miles. any suggestions?

heres my car.where the ka is going.i just think this would be the ultimate sleeper. let me know what you think and if any one has any se wheels for sale.

I forgot how small looking those 4AG's are. Good luck with the project.

Yeah, I looked at one of my old engine shots and realized that was not the same motor I had in my '83 coupe.

I had a super street mag with a 72 corolla in Mexico that had a 3tc motor with mikuni 44's, custom header, race ported head, race cams, supra trans and rear end(race pistons?) and claims it makes 280hp n/a. I'm thinking it was a typo error and it should be 180hp, but I don't know, it's super street.

Looking at the clearance issues you may have. You might want to consider using some NISMO mounts that are originally for a CA18det they fit the KA24de and they are shorter mounts than using the stockers. KA block is a tall block, you will need all the clearance that you can get.As far as transmissions you will want too look into an FS5W71C transmission from the1981-1883 200sx, it's a direct bolt on to KA blocks and is a shorter transmission, with tighter gear ratio's. It came on z20 and z22 engines.Stay away from L series transmissions (Pre 1980's transmissions) as they are labelled FS5W71B.I believe that the FS5W71C transmission from the 1988 VG30e 200sx is also a good candidate for your KA24de powered car. The mounting would probably work better for you than using the FS5W71C trannys from the 240sx cars.FYI if you are going to make a high compression KA lighten the flywheel, or get an aluminum one the stock flywheel weighs over 24 freakin pounds, major loss in high end power. You will also need an electic fan.

From the looks of it, there is plenty of room for the KA. might even be able to squeeze the stock fan + shroud if the engine is pushed crazy close to the firewall if you want to. Dont know about the KA trans fitment but thats a cool option that bigvinnie pointed out about the smaller trans.

The biggest problem with the clearance will be the KA oil pan VS the crossmember + steering rack of the corolla

Hey bigvinnie, do you know the gear ratios of the z20-22 trans? From all my junkyard and impound lot runs i dont think i've ever seen a z20-22 engine. Is that trans still a four speed hanging around from the datsun era?

For clarification I did make a slight error the z20 and z22 transmissions came from an FS5W71B not C type transmission, but it can still be used on the KA with the same bell housing. No those are not 4 speeds from the early Datsun ERA, but rather the 5 speeds that have been built since the decline of the Datsun name in the early 80's.Just for your information here is the complete transmission guide for Datsun/Nissan with gear ratios..http://www.gracieland.org/cars....htmlh ... tm...s.htm

The shorter mounts regardless of hiegth will promote a better center of gravity for a light weight chassis car. Regardless if it fits with the hood closed, I would doubt that strut bars would be implemented with the stock mounts and hiegth, I myself having an s13 with stock heigth can barely fit strut bars in my engine bay.Electric fan would be better in any situation since it carries very little degredation loss compared to belt driven.
