Hi everyone I have a 03 nissan350z,Lately I notice that my voltage gage starts to move between 12.3 to 13.95 volt every time I got stock in traffic for a long period of time. I changed the battery but that didn’t help. So, is there anyone knows what is going on? [email protected]

If it is not the battery, then it is most likely the alternator. It also greatly depends on the circumstances (eg if its raining and you have the headlights, wipers, and defrosters on, then your voltage will be low if the engine is idling [especially if you have a high power sound system]). If you have very little electrical load (lights off, ventilation off, stereo off), then this may be something you should have checked out.

I've only had my z for less than a week, and dont even know the amperage output of the stock alternator, but I've been working on cars long enough to know problems like this.

I gotta say so long as the voltage is stying above 12 volts I don't see a problem, the voltage while running is gonna be a direct result of the amount of charge coming from the alt and will not have anything to do with the battery, and the alt is supposed to vary it's output so as to chanrge the abttery without overcharging it, so if it stays above 12 and you don't have ahrd starts I'd not worry about it

if this still bothers you ...I would pay the dealer $90diagnostic fee(might be higher-its been awhile) just to clear your mind...remember peace of mind is priceless-and getting stuck on the side of the road sucks
