my 240sx ford 302 engine changes (lots of pics)

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

engine sits pretty well. maybe engine mounts was designed to be in 240sx . i dont mod anything in the mounts to get fit properly so only carter need to be modded.

i tape video of engine swap and carter build. its not explicit so it will help a little to some people in the swap.

what are people using for heads and cams on the 302 swap? i have a 306 with ford roller cam 69 model 302 heads port matched and roller rockers that i plan on dropping into a 89 240. i will also be using a c-4 3 speed auto with maybe 2500-3000 stall converter. all the parts i have are from a old project that was sold earlier this year. im guessing the mounts and oil pan has to be modded form stock pieces to get the motor in and looking good. any and all help would be great!! thanks

watch my videos on youtube. i made a swap video and i show a custom oil pan.

well.. im here right now... i was at the drag 1 hour ago and my best time with same setup was 14.64 .....

i need to change from edelbrock to holley carb for better running.

will i drop my time if i use some drag radials?

slicks DOTs or any soft compound tire will improve your et's. what are your 60 foot times at the track...that will tell you a lot on how the car is hooking. my best time at the track with my all stock motor 2003 stang gt was 1.93 60 ft. i would get a extra set of rims and mount a set of slicks for track only use.

1/4 mille = 14.6460 = 2.33

my best 60 in other runs(worse et because electrical failure ) was 2.17

Stock KA with exhuast intake = 15.3

Its cool that you got the swap done but just not enough power pick up for it to be worth doing.

ok..get those 60 numbers down!! slap on a set of slicks, practice your launch and watch your times improve. i need to know what cam and heads you are running so i can help you with your times. i can tell you 2 things right now...the carb you are running is junk and the intake is too big for your combo as it sits. i think the intake is for 3500-7000 rpms..in other words your combo is way off!!id go with a holly 600 cfm carb and a rpm performer intake. i think even with a stockish 302 and a light car you should be in the 13.99 range time wise. how much does your car weigh now?

yep, i need to practice my launch... what about a wider tire? I want to kept those 18" rims . i have a camber problem too. my cam is the stock from engine. engine is from explorer 5.0 96-97 .... heads are gt40 ( not gt40p ) . i said intake is for high rev and dont work for me but i run in high revs so maybe its weak at low rpms but powerfull in high revs. im not an expert here. so intake need to be changed? if i change cam for a E303, could i keep intake?

the cam in your motor will drop off after 5000 rpms right in the middle of the power band of the intake. the e cam is ok but still too big of a intake for the e cam. also if you swap to a e cam you will have to change the valve springs for increase in lift and duration. the gt-40 heads are ok not the greatest but with matched parts can get a 3200 pound stang into the 12s in the 1320. so if you choose to keep the intake go with a BIGGER cam than the e cam but if you go with a bigger cam then the heads will be the bottle neck. my o2 cents of imput would swap for a smaller intake, slicks, and practice.the cam in your car now would work GREAT with a performer intake..1500-5000 power band. now for the tire..wilder isnt always better. im not sure of the choices for a DOT for a 18 inch rim..so id look at nitto drag radials. they arent my choice of tire but they do help.

guys its been awhile too long. sorry... bad news. had to sell the 240. was working reduced hours was short on bills so i had to sell it. anyways. i been working a different job. making alot more money. soon hopefully i will have another 240. most likely wont be a coupe though not too many cheap ones around here. only hatches. anyways. i do plan to continue the 302 swap. going with a 5sp this time around. got to save up a little money for a car. i cant say for sure about your question with denting the firewall back and pushing the motor back a bit or not will work. i did have to dent it back a little bit though to fit it like in the pics you seen. the rear sump if i remember correctly would only have to be notched back about a 1/2". dont remember exactly but it was about that to fit around the rack and pinion.
