I just bout a 1990 240sx for $1100. Its in pretty good condition for what it is so i was excited to get it. The guy i bout it from the only problem with it was it needed a new starter, so i had to push start it then drove it home that same day. It Ran perfect, same day put a brand new starter in and it wouldnt start. The car cranks but it just doesnt wanna roll over and start. i also put new spark plugs in hopeing that would help but it doesnt.

Really apreciate if someone could help me narrow down or fix my starting problem. I plan to buy a new alternator because tha battery keeps dying also.

Just put a brand new battery in and a new dizzy cap. Still wont turn over

well if the car turn over then find out how old is that gas .pull the plugs out and see if it is wet. and if so you may have bad fuel. try starting it with starter fluid. and if that run then empty that gas and get new one. you did buy the car with a bad starter so this guy may have left the car sitting for at lease 6months to a year before giving up on it and say screw it i just sell it. this happen all the time.

just start with the basics. check for fuel, check for spark, and obviously make sure there is compression.

seems your new to mechanix..bigg had the rite idea..but lets give ya a game plan..

#1.) Pull the #1 plug out..keep the wire connected to it....ground out the plug to the frame somewhere by touching it to a bare metal spot...now have a buddy crank the car over...look for spark!..

A.) if there is spark....move to #2).B.) if there is no spark..then you need to check your fuses first!..then double check all ground wires..last but not least..test your coil(s).

#2.)now..if your hearing the fuel pump prime...then you need to conferm the system is not clogged up..remove the return line on the fuel rail carefully..then have your buddy turn the key just for a second..(Make shure you have eye protection)..if gas coumes out the return line side..then the fuel pump and lines are kosher..now..put the line back on..pull the rail off..hold it away from any spark/flam..have your buddy crank the engine over and see if fuel is coming out of the injectors..if it is..then the fuel system is good and you need to look elsewhere.

#3.)if the above are ruled out..there may be an issue with the nutral safty switch..

well the above will get ya going in the rite direction..try those and get back to us...good luck.
