My 240 sounds like a diesel

Hi there, i recently bought my first 240sx and have come across a problem. When ever i accelerate in gear there is a "tapping" noise coming from the engine bay. Its very similar to a diesel engine or a lawn mower. I suspect an exhaust leak but i cant really pinpoint the problem since the noise is only around when the car is moving. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to NiCO and congrats on getting your first 240. My first thought is that if it's an exhaust leak you'd be hearing it any time the engine was running, not only when it's in gear. I'm having a hard time imagining a sound that would be common to both a diesel engine and a lawn mower -- can you maybe take a vid with audio and post it up so we can hear it?

^ and it can be a chain rattle coming on, maybe? But still can't get what sound is in a diesel and a lawn mower!

I figured it out, turns out my EGR tube was loose thanks for the input though
