My 240 just turned into a Harley!!

I have a 91 240sx se 5spdsuper hicasover 300k (but used to run like a dream before today)

I just started having this wierd problem, it comes and goes every once and a while. When I am stopped and the car is Idling the whole car shakes violently and the exhaust sounds like a Harley, when I press the gas to accelerate it starts to get louder and by the time I get up to about 2500rpm, it sounds like a big fat hog goin down the road!! It's sorta like I lost 2 cylinders or somethin, also a small loss of power.

I had similar problem with my car after I washed the engine. I let some of the water into the spark plug hole. The spark plug itself corroded and isolator cracked which let the electicity go somewere else but not into combustion chamber. The car was deffinitely short on power running on 3 cylinders. Other than that I would check sparl plug wires, rotor and distributor cap.Good luck.

mine is doing the same thing lately on startups, goes away after a min tho....im gonna check everything

i would say its running on less that 4 cylinders. I had that problem before but for a dum,b reason. My battery kept hitting my distributer cap cuz my bracket wouldnt fit on my optima battery.

I would check the spark plug wires. My car did the same exact thing so I got new wires and it went away.

An easy way to tell if it's lack of fuel or lack of spark to one of your cylinders is by the cat, if you even have one. If one cylinder is getting fuel w/ no spark your cat will overheat and your exhaust will stink like rotten eggs.

Check to make sure u have enough fuel pressure could be a lack. Check ur injectors like they said if they have a problem just upgrade a size so u know ur capable of still runnin without going bad??

pull one spark plug wire at a time and see what happens.will tell u if its spark or not. If u pull one or two and nothing happens ull know what cyl the problem is on

argh my car did it again BAD, i had to drive it home ten miles like that. i checked all the connections, mafs, injectors, etc. i will try the pull plug wires method see what turns up. could this possibly be a problem with the cap/rotor??
