my 2008 pathfinder sounds like an overused boxspring today

driving around the city today, all i could hear was metal creaking, every time i stopped, started, etc. I'm thinking calipers, but am worried it might be my suspension. Any thoughts? I can jack her up, drop the wheels and take a look at the brakes, but how can I rule out the suspension. Ive never had to work on my suspension before.

If its suspension you might be able to jump up and down on the front and rear ends to see if you can duplicate the noise. I had a muffler bolt rubbing on the sway bar creating a creaking noise.

Have you done anything recently to the car?

Does the noise happen when you hit bumps without braking?

How about really light braking?

In any case doing a brake inspection is easy and should be done first because if your pads are worn all the way down your repair cost will be going up quickly.
