hello everyone, sorry for all the pictures but i just wanted to show the work i have done so far with the light bars i have. I am currently outfitting my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder into a modern Ectomobile. I've built many ghostbusters related props. Here is one of my proton packs -
My ride

For the Federal Signal Master directional stick i pretty much took the whole thing apart and sanded it down, painted it, polished the lens, and replaced all the bulbs.

Same steps done here as above.
Image
Image
i was really amazed what was hiding underneath all that dirt and grim.
Image
so fresh!
Image
so clean!
Image
Image
A little side note, when sanding down both light bars i sanded off all raised text.
Image
Now before anyone complains on why i painted the body black after doing all that work, i just want to let everyone know that I used plastic-dip. I wanted to see what it would look like and if later on I want to go back all i gotta do is peal it off :)

Here is a mock up of the frame that I am currently getting made out of aluminum.

These are the spot lights I'm going to put in the four corners of the frame

Thank you for viewing my post and i hope to get some feedback.

ps i just swapped out my stock 110amp alternator for a 220. I got it from http://www.qualitypowerauto.com/catalog.php?item=355 the guy was really helpful and it was an easy swap. I also took off the front tires and cleaned the crap out of the wheel wells and gave it a once over with Duplicolor undercoat. I painted the calipers black as well. ill post pictures later.

these are the same tanks on the Ectomobile. They are 50+ years old so they need some TLC.

i mentioned in the post above on how i took the tires off and cleaned up the wheel wells. I scrubbed them down, then gave everything a coat of Duplicolor rubber undercoating.

ok sorry for not posting any updates in a while. i was getting kinda overwhelmed with the build and thought i wasnt going to finish in time. I have about 6 days before the car will be unveiled and so i might or might not post the finish product cause i might be 2 tight for time. But anyway here is what I've been up 2.

those whelen lens are finally polished.
Image
the beginning of the box
Image
side note- i have tail light covers that i never replaced cause the only thing that it needed was new paint. here is the before on the right and the after on the left.
Image
rear panel of box
Image
getting some ruff cuts done
Image
so i got the metal roof rack, those yellow oxygen tanks, and the whelen 9000 frame back from powder coating and holy cow it looked so sick i had to do a quick mock up of what ever i had. i was excited !
Image
Image
Image
even just having one of the spot lights mounted for a quick second and i knew this was a great freaking idea.
Image
back to the build.
Image
all primed and caulked
Image
i had to back track since i forgot about this piece and then it showed up in the mail. just setting up the mounting points
Image
Image
modern fan box complete
Image
solar panels mounted
Image
so ive been making some changes with the design of the rack, but not going over board to where it doesnt make sense. i wanted to add something to the walls that are visible on the outside. so i got the idea from the milk crate i sit on while building lol. i took the pattern off that, got in drawn up and made into a decal.
Image
before
Image
after. i am really pleased the way it came out.
Image
heat sink painted and installed
Image
mounting points for the box to attach to the frame
Image
so thats where I'm at fellas. also in this photo you can see that i got the metal box powder coated a gun metal grey.
Image
oh one more thing, on the real ectombile it had a large Whip Antenna mounted to the side of the car. I wanted to get one but i didnt want to drill into the body of my car. so i poked around until i came across a antenna mount for my rear brush guard. I went with a firestik cause i felt it went with the style of the build.
Image

i hope you like my work so far and let me know what you think!

Looking dope, gets better with every update for sure! Hope you don't mind me asking about the specs and cost on your wheels. Trying to find a good setup for mine, didn't know if I should custom order something or if there's anything out there.

lemansz20 i honestly do not recall the brand, i picked it up from Speed World in queens ny. I just asked for the same one i had at the moment just new, cause the one that was on there had rust and a couple of dents.

overwest same story here, I bought these rims after flipping through a couple of books at Crown's on northern blvd in flushing queens. I was looking for something similar to the ones undercover tahoe's use. The rims themselves held up pretty well, but the center caps started rusting out. I think i found a match online for replacements, and the good this is that they only cost about 6 bucks each. I believe i paid about 1100 for tires and rims. The tires are from Toyo. I can get the spec's on that if you need them.

ADVICE ? I wanted to know if anyone can help me out on this. I don't like the standard bulb color of my side markers. I wanted to know if any knows of a pair that are a deep orange color.

ps. Also i am going to attend the Saint Patricks day parade in south Boston with the ecto. So after i get her all cleaned up and hopefully a couple of add-ons i'll post some pictures.

pps. here are a few more pictures from the previous post.

About the bulbs,

If you have stock corners, you should have clear bulbs. So you can't really be less orange than clear unless you have orange bulbs for some reason too.

I have clear (after-market) corners and have orange bulbs (obviously that doesn't help you).

But, when I was looking into the specific traffic laws, in some obscure areas, it's legal to have clear housings and clear bulbs.

That may be an option.

Sorry for any miss inturpretaion, I'm looking for a deep colored orange bulb. The stock bulbs I buy from auto zone that are meant for my car have a yellowish look to them.

Nice Work!! What size/brand wheels/tires are those? Looks great.

Looks like a Toyo Open Country A/T. 275/60/17?? Toyo website only shows A/T II now which is more aggressive tread pattern.

I'll double check in the morning, but I think that mine are deep orange.

I actually got them from the dealership.

They were something like 4.50 a piece.

Sort of highjacking your thread re: corner bulbs.
I modified my corners this summer by opening them up and removing the orange inserts/reflectors. They are now clear, which I really like.
The stock bulbs are clear as well, but they are slightly yellow, compared to the headlights and fog lights.
I don't want to go with orange bulbs, but rather, I'd like to replace them with an even whiter light output type of bulb.
I don't know where to start looking. Places like Canadian Tire have a very poor selection (I'm in Canada).
Any suggestions?
BTW, I don't know what the laws are here re: colour of signal lights, but I'm guessing that the cops have better things to do than to pull me over for having clear corners, even if they are illegal.
Thanks.

Alright, turns out my orange bulbs themselves look orange, but are yellow when lit up.

So I don't really know where to get a really orange bulb.

I live in Canada as well, and yes the selection is terrible. I think your best bet if you want whiter lights is LED's off the internet.

I remember a while back, someone wanted to do that, and the had to rig up something special thing to enable blinking.

I think towncivilian knows all about this

If you were to use LEDs, I would only purchase the 45 SMD-LED bulbs from SuperBrightLEDs. I have found eBay bulbs to be inadequate in brightness and viewing angles. I use the 45 SMD-LED bulbs in my two side brake lights and they are brighter than stock and illuminate the housing better in my opinion, plus they have the benefit of turning on and off instantly and consuming less power. I believe Chuck uses the same bulbs in his brake lights as well.

You will need to replace the flasher unit with an electronic one meant for use with LED bulbs if you replace any of the turn signal bulbs (save for the two indicator lamps in the instrument cluster of course).

Just make use of led lights. They are available in numerous colors and will not cost you much.

hey guys, i took a shot in the dark with a shop and had them order some bulbs for me. I am very pleased with the result.

I just really wanted the bulb color to match the reflector that was in the after marking housing. If anyone is interested in them, i can post a picture of the packaging.

hi everyone, I'm driving up to Boston to participate in the Saint Patricks Day parade and i am doing some minor add-ons/upgrades. One being the bulbs i replaced as seen above. Another thing i just finished in a custom switch plate a fabricated. Nothing fancy, I just felt that the plate the installer used didnt flow with the interior. Plus i managed to gash the vinyl on the driver seat the other day. So i really needed to find a better location.

here is the plate(sorry for the crappy lighting)
Image

here's the damage

Relocating the wires

I took out the ashtray and took a piece of black plexiglass and shaped to fit. then bought some switches that mimicked the interior. Im really happy with the outcome.

Brother makes some really classy gold on black tape for their TZ series label makers that would look good on your new switch panel.

And yes, I use brake light bulbs from SuperBright LEDs. I'm not sure how many LEDs they have, but it's a bunch. They are much brighter than my prior LED brake lights.
