Yesterday I found a 1992 240 with the twin cam 16v engine with only 92,080 miles on it for $300 bucks! I DROVE IT HOME!!! I think it might need a timing chain( little rattle from the front of the engine) and the rear window was smashed, so the rear interior was a little musty. It revs clean and smooth, but seams to have a slight flat spot around 3000 rpms? Any ideas ?I know it needs a tune up, but the air filter seames to be clean. Also how much of a pain in the *** is it to change the timing chain and or what would it cost. Today I gutted the car except for the two seats. I need to loose weight and add some power....on a very tight budget.. Any ideas Greatly appreciated.

nice find. your problem sounds like clogged injectors, or a screwy MAF. the timing chain isnt that big of a deal...if youve done one before. otherwise, you might want to have someone help you, or have it serviced.

if you want some more power:

ditch the A/C ditch the P/Sadvance timingditch mechanical fan and use electric

^ those are all free, BTW.

You sure it's not just a guide? I would check that before you rip the whole thing apart.

Does the head have to be removed to change the timing chain? The noise sounds almost like a pebble or something is bouncing around inside the valve cover towards the front. But it doesn't do it all the time...??? thanks for the replys

Its not a drift car yet... you have alot of work to do before you can "drift" with that (both you and the car). Im just telling you so you dont get flamed by everybody.

I would almost bet that the timing chain is fine and that your guide is broken...to verify that just remove the valve cover and either pull the broken fragment out...or if its not broken then there will be a guide chillen above the timing chain.....

I got my 240sx a couple years ago and it had a strange rattling sound when I bought it....it turned out to be the guide

Problem solved!!! The guide had been broken off, and was laying on the timing chian... Pulled it out, and it runs like new car! Thanks to all for the help. The timing chain seams to be in great shape.

lol, an acrylic sheet!it reminds me of my scout I used to have...that thing was fun to fart around it.

Where I live (vancouver BC area) my car would become very waterbogged this time of year...
