My j30 idles normally like almost right at 1,000 when i have the heat on and its in drive or when its in park. but when i turn off the heat and i got it in drive and my foot on the brake it drops 2 sticks below 1,000? Also it stays below 1,000rpm when I go for a full stop but when its in park it goes up to about 1,000? I changed my spark plugs to oem ngk laser platinum, pcvs, fuel filter and still no help with the idle issues....and my old plugs were still good and the same oem ngk laser platinum is what the mechanic told me so I'm waisting my money here trying to fix this issue so I dunno what more to do

there are no lights on either so i dunno whats wrong with it...

here is a pic of how my idle is when my car is in drive and im holding down the brake now i dont think this is normal:

Have you checked your alternator?

i know my car idles almost the opposite...when i turn the heat on my rpms go up...lol..w/o the heat on i idle at around 600-8-- rpms....w/the theat on im at around 900-1000....u might try cleaning the EGR tubes,MAF,and replacing the air filter...might not fix ur problem but it helps eliminates the possibilities...good luck...also check ur ECU...maybe an old stored code or something...

had some problems with my idle fluctuating wildly @ 95 -100,000 miles (97 J30) & it was the Throttle Position Sensor that went bad as well as the Idle Air Control Valve needing cleaning.See here: zer...light

Good luck!

You may want to have your Idle Air Control Valve cleaned out if you have higher mileage ... say over 90,000.

I think you IAC and the rest of the intake tract may be dirty and needs cleaning.

Strange quirks with these cars. Mine does the same thing not with the heat on. but it actually idles higher 1000 when my AC is on, 800 is normal. I think that the Js need a peticular level of electricity and even a slightly warn alternator and battery cause issues. Fickle a** car! My mechanic does an intake pressure flush for $70.00 said should help clear out the EGR tubes. He also quoted me 2 hours of labor to remove the tubes and soak them or $150. They sell a kit at Oreileys for $50. Tough spot to get to. Knuckle buster for sure, and from reading this sight the bolts come out easy but the tubes do not. I used some Lucas intake cleaner and octane boost in my gas, smoothed things out a lot. Not recomended in the OM, but... worked for me.

On mine the only clog in the tubes were right where it feeds into the plenum.easy job.

Trying to unbolt the tubes from the egr itself will drive you INSANE !!! These things I know. lol
