My problem first started when my Q would stall and a message on the display would say low battery charge and when i tried to restart it would take 20-50 seconds of starter cranking before it would turnover. While the engine was running a check engine light would stay on then go off. I had the interstate workaholic battery load tested and to be on the safeside i put a remanned alternator in to it. I took it to a shop(independent) but they said they could not retrieve the code from the ECU so i got one from POP POP and car will not start. When i attempted to start car after 230 seconds of cranking i smelled a little gas. So its getting fuel. This Q has 203k and has been through the usual stuff: chain guides(2000)crank angle sensor(2003) new fuel injectors, plenum-water,gas and vaccum hoses(2004) fuel pressure checked, new fuel pump, gas tank and sending unit.

Did you try to get the code directly from the ECU? There is a little screw on it and you turn it clockwise wait 2-3 seconds and turn it back counterclockwise until it stops and count the red LED flashes. First flash count is 10's second count is 1's. It if flashes 2 long and 5 short your code would be 25. Check the FSM for what the number means. If you dont' have one let us know the code you get and we'll look it up for you.

Did you ever figure out what was wrong with your car? I'm having a very similar problem with a '95 Q45. Basically, car starts studder when idling at a stop, then engine turns off and says low battery charge. As of right now, my car is still starting up again without problems after stalling.
